We've all heard horror stories about the perils of drug addiction. These stories usually involve cocaine, crack, heroin, or meth.

But, from what I understand, the most powerfully addictive drugs are the benzos. When someone becomes addicted to benzos, they suffer absolute withdrawal HELL for over a month. Many rehab clinics won't even accept benzo addicts because they're afraid the addicts might die. Until I read this, I had no idea benzos were so addictive.

Does Bluelight know what the absolute most addictive drug in the world is?

I think it depends upon the person, and the thing in the person's life that they're trying to correct by using drugs. whichever drug corrects that thing the best (or at least covers it up) will be the drug that is the most addictive to them. that's just been my experience.

dr phil called, he wants his answer back

say what you will, but i don't know how you can argue with the fact that when you find something that gives you exactly what you want (which is dictated, often, by what issues you're having, or what feelings you want to feel) you'll keep using it.

^Opiates give me exactly what I want, so does amphetamine, many different hallucinogens (DMT especially), many different benzos and MDMA. I don't use any of them daily. A person can love using drugs and find them to put them in the ideal state and not be a drug addict. The most addictive drug is one with far fewer positive effects then some of the less addictive ones, the most addictive drug being tobacco.

Statistically the answer is tobacco I believe. After tobacco comes meth and then crack. I'm sure I can find sources if I look, but so can you, and I don't feel like it. I think the thing I read said that 90% of people who try tobacco become smokers. I know that about 24% of people who try heroin become addicts and I think the percent for alcohol is 16, but I'm not sure. I don't remember any of the other specific percentages, but this info is just a google search away, I think the erowid addiction & habituation vault also has something about it. But according to statistics and the surgeon general, tobacco is the most addictive drug.

You may laugh

But according to all of things i have heard is that nicotine is. I know this a forum where we are talking about the good good stuff and in that regard mine has to be oxy's pretty much any opiates but see it depends with different people what there D.O.C. is and what is most addicting to them i hate speed its just not my thing but my friend hates oxy's says they make them to tired. With me oxy's give me so much energy. As i was saying though nicotine is still considered one of the most addictive substances in the world. My mom is a doctor and she is always telling me about patients she sees that have finally got clean and sober but no matter what cigs are something that they just cant beat. I also believe that even though these substances can be addictive as long as your not an alcoholic drug addict and know when it's time to have fun and time to sit down and take care of business the addictive properties of the drugs shouldn't affect your life. Strong mental fortitude is key and that is what a alcoholic drug addict doesnt have. Watched it happened to many friends and it wasnt there fault its just how there brain is wired.

Tobacco and caffeine

They are socially excepted (for the most part with smoking) and just about everyone does one or the other during each day.

Now for illegal drugs.. Powerful stims like crack or methamp are extremely addicting. But this also comes down to the person. I've done cocaine and speed. And personally have no reason to do them again. Now, opiates/heroin.. that's a different story. I know plenty of people who've done them and can live without it. Then again, theres some who can't.

In all it depends on the personality of the person.

from what Ive read benzos and alcohol seem to be up there

in terms of being insanely hard to kick after being dependent on them for years

crack or I.V. cocaine, I.V. or smoked methamphetamine, I.V. heroin, alcohol, and strong barbiturates or strong benzos are generally the most addictive.

imo crack causes the most psychological dependence while barbiturates, benzos, and alcohol cause the most physical dependence.

*however: addiction varies from person to person, and even some hallucinogenic drugs can make the list such as ketamine and MDMA.

Are u guys dumb or something everyone knows crystal meth is the most addictive drug there is i have tried it only once and i still cant stop thinking about it ...good thing i live in a small hick town and i cant get my hands on it....

I have personally known over 50 people with various addictions to every drug out there being used to get high or alter their brain chemistry. And my observations have been that it depends on the person. I have used MDMA, Crack, Ice, Meth, Marijuana, Benzos, Cocaine, all on a recreational basis. The crack was used everyday for about 2 months and I quit it overnight with ZERO problems/withdrawals. Exact same situation for the Ice. I used cocaine at least 2-3 times a week for 20 years. I quit it overnight no problems. I used MDMA for 10 yrs at least once a week and quit that overnight no problem. Used Ice for about 6 months everyday and quit that overnight no problems. Used Speed & Marijuana for my college yrs and quit that overnight no problems. Used steroids while competing on a natl level for 26 yrs and quit over night, no addiction problems,(however dozens of surgery s from joint and tendon problems). I use benzos for over 25+ yrs and they are part of a pain mgmt cocktail I will explain later. But I have stopped using several different type of benzos after yrs of use without any withdrawal. I used alcohol and was a binge drinker buy stopped drinking anything 10 yrs ago,l the taste of booze makes me gag. I have never smoked tobacco ever.
Now for my only withdrawal problem, it started with Norco while I was put on it from a pain mgmt MD15 yrs ago. I have been seeing the same pain mgmt clinic for same pain issues for 15 yrs and I am on Norco, Oxy, Lyrica, Soma & a benzo. When I have tried to stop using the Norco or Oxy it is a fucking nightmare and I can't do it and with my pain issues don't know if I will ever be able to.
Now as for my friends and friends of friends, I have seen them all become addicted to everything mentioned within a week and could not stop without a rehab or dying. The best thing that ever happened for me was that my pain mgmt clinic started doing random drug tests for insurance purposes, and now I don't even think about touching anything other than what they RX me, for the fear of getting the death penalty from the clinic.

So from a real world look of different people taking different drugs, it is subjective at best...

It depends on the person. I've been addicted to opiates but can't understand how someone can be an alcholic. (I can understand chemistry/physically wise, but mentally it/s hard to grasp). Ive also taken adderall for years and take tons of benzos but have no problems.

All really depends

I think you need to differentiate what you mean exactly?

Are you talking about physical addiction? Mental addiction? Or the combination of the two?

If it's mental addiction, that's debatable and I think it depends entirely upon the person. I know some people who love coke but hate heroin, and vice versa.

If it's a combination of the two, then that's probably debatable in similar ways.

If you're talking about physical dependency however.. I guess there are always things out there that I haven't heard of or don't know about.. But I think it would probably be benzos, with alcohol coming in as a close second. Of the common drugs that I have knowledge of, when having aquired a physical dependence, benzos and alcohol are the ones who's withdrawals are most likely to kill.
