Misc What is the max. amount of time I have to pick up a script I filled at the pharmacy?

I filled a script for 60 2mg buprenorphine pills but did not get around to picking them up yet. I am in between jobs right now so I have only been able to spend money on the necessities as I am living off my savings at the moment. And I have bupe as it is so I have been putting off picking these up.

My question is this: is there a time limit as to how long I have to pick up the script after filling it? I am dealing with Duane Reade pharmacy if that makes a difference and using my insurance to do so. After about a week or so of me not picking it up, I got an automated message saying if I did not pick it up in 48 hours they were going to essentially un-fill it. I don't remember how it was phrased but basically they would put the pills back on the shelves and I would have to request them to fill it again.

Does anyone know how long I can let my script sit in the pharmacies hands before they simply won't fill it anymore..because it's too old or something? I don't want to risk them saying I need to have my doctor call in another script because it will bring up the question of why do I have extra pills.

I;ll put it on my credit card if I have to.. but if there is no risk/time limit I would rather wait until my first direct deposit from my new job comes in.
 
I know my pharm gives it 10 days. In 1 week they call you, then they give you 3 days to pick it up, if you don't they put it back.
 
After they put it back you can go in and request it to be filled again. I am wondering is there a 30 day limit or anything where they say the script is no longer valid?
 
At my pharmacy they wait 10-14 days before sending back your shit, but the prescription is still valid in the system if you don't pick it up.

I've filled a desoxyn script that I didn't pickup for months, they just had to reprocess it it took them like 5 minutes.
 
ive noticed it says on prescription bottle when you can longer pick it up.. thats kinda confusing but i mean lets you say you pick up half or somethin the prescription will expire in months dont know exactly.. but if you have a script on a piece of paper i think that is good for a month depending on if the pharmacy knows you and your in really good standing with your dr like i was

Yeah I'm sure that paper scripts expire, but since where I'm from paper scripts are only for the good drugs like schedule II (everything CIII and below is done purely electronically), so I never hold onto the paper for too long, I'm usually in line at the pharmacy within 20 minutes after getting my pain killers %)

Except the desoxyn, I always lag it with that shit. It's really annoying to have to pickup the paper script for it, but I don't mind at all driving to the pain clinic to get my opiates, go figure. Guess I'm just an Opi-Man, ha.
 
Beleive me.. if I didn;t have a few extra bottles of 30 2mg bupe pills, I woulda filled that shit promptly. Actually I went straight from teh doctor to the pharmacy to fill both scripts but only picked up the temazepam lol. I wasl ike fuck the bupe for now I need that $. My 30x 30mg temazepam never seem to last more than a few days.. but when i have my temazepam script I know sure as hell that I will have a painless transition back to bupe if I took an H vacation. Since I only get benzos once a month.. and 30x 30mg temazepam capsules is equal to about 10 bars in my book, I get pretty high for like 3 days lol.
 
Yeah usually when I go to the pharmacy I only pickup the opiates and benzos (which i dont take much anymore),

then when im low on desoxyn (which has never happened) ill pickup all the months worth that ive missed. i dont know how it works like that but it does. haha
 
You just reminded me of what I used to do when I had no insurance. I am honestly surpsied the pharmacy even allowed it. I would drop off my script for a buttload of 8mg suboxone.. but being that they are around 7 bucks or a pop (atleast back then) I would request that only 2 days worth be filled.. so I would have like 6 suboxone, then 2 weeks later id do the same thing.. and I woul dnever end up filling the whole script before moving onto the next one. Maybe they felt bad for me lol.. obviously my money was going to dope rather than the necessities.

But now that I have insurance as long as I am not getting name b rand shit it's great just paying a copay. I dont get name brand b/c it only covers 50% up to $500 a year. But that works in my favor because no doctor would deny me generic buprenorphine when I can get my whole script filled for the cost of 2 suboxone pills.

Honestly though considering what I pay for private health insurance I don't know that I am getting a deal after all.. but should I need hospitalization for something serious insurance is a life saver financially. It used to be around 150 monthly but they kept upping it probably because of how much I was costing them getting the generic buprenorphines filled.

But like car insurance, I hope that I don;t end up having to use it lol.

Yeah it's weird how pharmacy's operate, they're all different. I've had very conservative ones and very liberal ones who did duplicates all the time and would always mess up and give me wayyyyy too much. I never bothered to correct them but in my defense I never really looked at the bottles until I got to the car.

And yeah, co-pay for the fucking win. Saving my life right now, and my sanity for sure.
