What Is The Best/Easiest Way To Extract DXM From Cough Syrup?

Me and a friend of mine decided we wanted to try extracting DXM from a bottle of Robitussin cough syrup. Only we can't seem to decide on an extraction method. What would be the easiest and best way to extract DXM from cough syrup?

I've tried mixing cold water with the syrup in a ziplock but didnt get any results :/ I tried it with delsym brand, it had acetaminophen in it so I wanted the straight dxm powder, I look forward to seeing what people come up with!

It's a long and complicated process, just drink it.

Use lye to basify the cough syrup, pull the dxm with lighter fluid. Evaporate the lighter fluid. There is your dxm.

That's how it works in a nutshell.
All you need is a Mason jar, lye, lighter fluid (Naphta) a couple of ziploc bags, and that's it.
Don't do this with syrup that contains anything else besides DXM. That's important.
One of the easiest kitchen chemistry things you can do as a beginner.
