Okay so my whole life I have always thought about my past I guess you could say i am stuck in the past. Because I always think about my past and I get depressed because I had a hard lifetime. So many opportunities in my life that could have happened bur never did. I recently keep thinking about his girl who is very pretty but unfortunately she moved away after this summer. She's also part of the past and its like I'm obsessed with her. Creepy I know, but if you met her you would think she's damn good looking too. I have to admit, I have an addictive personality. So ofer obsessed with things easily. It sucks but I have been like that my whole entire life. It's depressing, I wish I had a therapist but they cost money I think. So now I'm relying on drugs, because I hear they help you temporally. I don't care about the risks as long as I am happy then I am fine. Plus I have social anxiety and OCD and this is seriously the worst combination of disorders to have. Sorry for rambling, but the basic question is what drug is the best to numb your thoughts, and makes you stop thinking about someone and the past? Sorry for the wall of text, typing this on my mobile phone.

Um... All of them?

But, drugs are a really stupid move to make out of emotion...

Just saying. Go ride a bike, pick up a hooker, masturbate....

Hell do anything positive besides substances.

Heroin, though it will not solve any problems only add to them in the long run.

Benzos might be the cheaper more functional alternative.

Mod Note: This is horrible advice.

toz note: captain obvious

Psychoactive compounds are an effective means to alleviate negative thoughts and feelings. Having said that, I must stress they are not a long-term solution, and can often end up contributing to stress rather than minimising it. In regards to your actual question, what is the best drug to numb depression and stop thinking about the past, the answer is quite complex.

Some drugs can actually help you to stop thinking about the past and your depression, while others work by changing your interpretation of those thoughts. So while you reflect on the past and your underlying depression, there is minimal emotional discomfort. I've found the best drug(s) for this are opiates, alcohol and benzodiazepines (not all at once, obviously!). Being depressants, they slow down the central nervous system (CNS), which enables the user to view the dark thoughts from a distance, reflect more objectively, and allow positive and constructive thoughts/feelings/emotions to surface and be enjoyed. Personally, I prefer morphine and oxazepam to achieve this. Always be careful, know your tolerance levels and NEVER try anything new without a trusted person near-by to ensure you get medical treatment should something go wrong.

As for trying to actually stop these thoughts, logic would dictate that to be near-impossible. Counselling by a social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist can be a great help, especially if they use cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT). There are psychoactive drugs which can do a pretty remarkable job of numbing depression and blocking negative thoughts, although I can't stress enough that these thoughts will always be lurking in the shadows of your psyche. It's really a matter of how well you can cope with them, and striving to minimise the frequency and severity of these unwanted emotions. In regards to what actual drugs can be used for this, I have found amphetamines, or amphetamine-type substances (ATS), are quite effective in 'blocking' dark thoughts. You can go for hours, even days, without dwelling on the shit which bought you to a dark place to begin with. I prefer dexamphetamine. Methamphetamine, while stronger, is illegal and thus one cannot guarantee purity, what cutting agents have been used and how other people have reacted to the same batch. ATS like Ritalin (methylphenidate) and Duromine (phentermine) are also effective, albeit the come-down can be remarkably unpleasant. Upon being prescribed methylphenidate by my psychiatrist at the age of 19, I quickly discovered combining it with alcohol (ethanol) produces a beautiful sense of euphoria, and practically obliterates negative thoughts about past, present and future. When combined with ethanol, methylphenidate becomes ethylphenidate, and the sense of euphoria it generates is second-to-none.

So yeah, basically my experiences have taught me stimulants provide the most effective way to induce voluntary memory impairment. On the other hand, opiates, benzodiazepines and alcohol allow the brain to explore the emotions which are causing the grief and pain.

Generally speaking, the best way to minimising psychological suffering with psychoactive drugs is through trial-and-error. And, naturally, everybody's genetic makeup, socio-economic background, up-bringing and so forth vary greatly from person-to-person, and thus any "one size fits all" approach is quickly rendered obsolete.

I hope this post has helped somewhat, and to all those suffering, for whatever reason, stay strong and never, never give up.

Drugs won't solve this problem and if you have an addictive personality they will likely end up making your quality of life worse through addiction and physical dependence.

Benzos are just as addictive as opiates if you use them regularly enough.

Thread carefully fella.

As you will have read there are lots of drugs that can numb you and make things seem better.
The only problem is that you will have to continue taking them forever if you want to stay numb etc as soon as you stop taking them your problems and thoughts are still going to be with you.
It may be worth paying to see a therapist and trying to sort out your thoughts once and for all and you can then also avoid the problems that using drugs can bring with them.

LOL I came here to say THIS or Fentanyl or bennies. It won't solve anything but it answers his question. Well, it will solve some short term issues.

Drugs will only make whatever you're going through worse. You can't escape all your problems by getting loaded.. only cause new ones.

I suggest you get to the underlying issue of why you are feeling this way and correct it in a healthy way.

Maybe make a post over in The Dark Side and see if you can get some support.

I have to totally agree that this is playing with fire, treading dangerous waters, all of the above.

This is exactly what turned me into an opiate abuser.. all the things that happened in my past. Everyone has a story, some much worse than others.

What I can tell you is there are definitely alternatives to explore first; medical help would be the best.. seek out a psychiatrist and psychologist and keep with it. You would probably be scripted basic antidepressants and even a benzo. A psychologist is obvious, just there to talk it out and help you explore other options, and help get over the past. Some people think the whole therapy thing is incredibly dumb but if it were not for therapy among other help I may not be alive right now.

Though to answer your question, which I say tread extremely carefully; the best would be really anything, for me its opiates (oxy / heroin). I would recommend marijuana big time. No physical withdrawal, no huge stigma about it, generally easy to acquire.. something like that would be a lot better than getting into opiates. Benzos are great to for the times when you get sad / anxiety attacks.. easily scripted by any psych with a heart. If one says no go to another.. hell I got my xanax upped when I went to a new doctor and just said I got this this and this, and xanax 2mg... I was asked if I had a bottle to show and said no... had my new scripts filled within an hour.

Benzos could also make u black out and end up jail for doing something you don't remember. Best bet is to find some really good Indica Hash, its very effective and the healthiest choice

The best thing is to go to a counselor and fix the root of your problems.

Taking drugs for emotional problems will lead you down a deep and dark road that you do not want to go down. Trust me.

If you really seek to forget the past for a short moment with drug which as said before, solve nothing and will add to the problem but Dissociative are great for that purpose and are not as addictive as previous proposition, things like PCP, Ketamine, MXE, etc.

So many opportunities in my life that could have happened bur never did.

If you're busy drowning your sorrows in chemical solace, you're going to neglect any new opportunities that come your way. In fact, you're liable to put yourself in a situation where there will be no new opportunities. Move on by trying out new activities and people.

It's depressing, I wish I had a therapist but they cost money I think. So now I'm relying on drugs, because I hear they help you temporally.

And illicit drugs at black market prices don't? Seriously, seeing a professional would be best, and they can at least prescribe you something that won't totally consume your life and create ever more problems.

If you insist on using drugs to avoid dealing with your feelings, cannabis is going to be the least harmful, and most sustainable habit.

your answer was very helpful, i am not person for heroin. I hate even hearing the word, i would rather try Oxy. Not sure about Xanax. Weed? Sure but it's hard to find in my area.
