Do they put you on suboxone for your stay then 4 days later say bye you're detoxed cause you aren't sick then the box wheres off and you detox all over again? Do they give comfort meds? What happens? I am tired of this life and I ain't gonna kill myself so I guess I might make that move.

it depends on the facility. if its a medical detox, suboxone may or may not be given for a short length of time, along with other meds to keep you comfortable. if it is not a medical detox, the facility will not dispense medications. I've been to both types. The non-medical detox was near a hospital and if your w/d's got really bad they sent you to the ER. When i went, I was there for opiate withdrawals and came out of the ER with #24 1mg Lorazepam tabs and a Clonidine patch. @ the medical detox they used Phenobarbital and a bunch of other stuff e.g. vistaril, robaxin, bentyl, trazadone, Ibuprofen (no bupe tho).

Call the place and ask if you want to know what to expect

What happens to you when you detox(opiate specific)?

I can tell you one thing I found out the hard way (more then once) the first trip to the rehab for me was a 3 day detox at that timje they used bufernex, and clonidine. I was fine I can remember I even slept, smoked cigg.,and slept just fine. I thought I was superwoman I was fine.....one week to the day the shit started up heavy...I was dope sick..I was dumb founded, I was sick as hell and I relapsed. I went easy at first, ya all Know how that goes, just a little today...we all know that don't work out, before I knew it I was back at my same doseage I was when I checked into the rehab, I thought I had better give it another try. I really wanted out....I just wanted to be like I was before I got addicted..so I checked in to yet another rehab, I thought to myself how comfy I was the first time I went, so I was excepting the same...I had taken Bufernex before and it was smooth. I told myself how I would just go to an out patient program after the 3 day detox. They told me I needed to do at least a 28 day program after that...but my plans didn't include that, I had a family to take care of, I couldn't stay any longer, not a min. Besides I had had enough, boy was I wrong...I was wrong about alot of things. The first thing I found out was the more you detox the harder it is. The bupernex BARELY touched my withdrawl, infact, I didn't even stay for the three days. I bounced out of that place the next morning and went straight to my dope house....but the real issue I am trying to get at is don't take the medicine for granted, hope this is your first and last time you have to do this. If I would have just waited a few more days the first time I time I reached out for help the feeling off the detox meds would have been over. Instead it took me 5 more years and a shit load of heart ache. To anyone that is new to herion, coke, meth, I.V. get out now, don't waste anymore time. Time it is to be cherished, instead I wasted it and I am so resentful about it everyday but I am learnig that I have to put that behind me in order to move along. So let me thank BL for having this site,it is my venting area. I hope, that if I take nothing away from this.....that someone eles will read this little post and stop before it is too hard. But don't give up. This too shall pass...;)

Oh yeah and I also detoxed with suboxone and that also hangs around in your system. I detoxed for the last time aug.2009 and it was a week again before I felt anything from the detox it self and it was a bitch but I was not gonna have to put my life on hold again...I tryed 8 times, and finnally number 9 was the ticket. S<3<3<3o far, so good..;)

Like the lung stated - it depends on the facility. There are medical detoxes...cold-turkey detoxes...

I personally have been to two different medical detoxes - neither or which really "detoxed" me sucessfully. I basically stayed high there. They both administered methadone and a bunch of other meds that made me go weee. The nurses at the second one I went to kept asking me if I want x med, y med (ativan, ambien) - and being the drug addicted that I am of course I said, "hell yeah!"

So I slept and I ate, and when the 3 days was up I left on my merry way (fucked-up...I can't believe they even let me drive home). And about 8 hours after I left, THAT'S when I really started to feel like shit, a la I said screw it and went and got some dope.

Pro-Tip: after leaving detox, go to rehab

The only facility that was effectively able to detox me was jail. :) *shutter* Definitely not the ideal place for such an occurance but it kept me clean for 6 months!

If ya don't change things now your bound to end up some were you aren't to pleased about...Jail institution, or dead....there is no happy ending if ya don't flip the script.....rewind the tape to before you did the first line of dope...;)

Everyone has given good advice/experience so far, I just wanted to address your question of suboxone detox.

The major benefit of using drugs like methadone or buprenorphine to detox is the long halflife.

When you stop an opiate told turkey you go from 100-0 in no time and SUFFER...

In this chart the Y (vertical) axis is how good you feel, starting out on opiates then coming off and eventually going back to feeling normal. The X (horizontal) axis is time passing... so when you cold turkey you feel like shit very quickly and stay at that lowest point longer. With sub/'done you don't go as long, you get there more gradually and you don't stay as the worst parts nearly as long.

COLD TURKEY

Hopefully that makes sense, I'm not good with drawing using symbols! Essentially the sub/'Done let you down very gently so you experience the discomfort more gradual, don't ever get AS uncomfortable as cold turkey and start feeling better more quickly.

i really love how u put that cane2theleft that it really made sense sheyyttt ive bin to so many rehabs/detoxes ive bin to a rehab that costs $30,000 a month to one thats bin covered by my insurance and honestly the best detox was the one where my detox meds was tramadol, trazodone, and clonodine that was perfect for me even tho now in days it prob wont even curb my w/d's a bit but back in the day like a year or two into my addiction that was perfect and i thought when i got out shit if i use again ill just go back to that detox and it will be easy but sheyyytttt when i went back again i barly lasted a day there til i called my girl with the cellphone i snuck in to come pick me up trust me like other ppl said evrey detox gets not alitlle harder but ALOT harder so please quit while you are AHEAD best of luck :) please take our advice

yes it does get worse with each detox so imagine what you will have to do this more then once.....I sure hope it clicks for everyone that has a fight in them....you can do it...I am a puss, so if I can do it anybody can8)

it seems like every time i go to inpatient treatment or detox i end up meeting some crazy girl and we have sex and i get kicked out of said facility. the moral of the story is; when you go to treatment or detox, do not get into a sexual relationship with any of your peers.
