What gives amphetamines "legs"

I've only heard this in regards to methamphetamine, but regardless, what is meant by giving amphetamines legs? I assume it is in regards to duration.

I think its much more simple probably they mean that it is causing their legs to feel restless and twitch and therefore when they say legs they mean its strong

it's a euphemism for having a long duration of action, caused by the fact that amphetamine has a high bioavailibility and relatively slow metabolism/excretion (half life is about ~12 hours)

same deal for methamphetamine: it's even more resistant to metabolism and even more lipophilic (hence less likely to be excreted in urine) = high persistence in the blood stream = long lasting stimulation.
