Ok so ive been on a diet for about a month. Ive been eating nothing but fish and chicken for the most part. Untill Saturday or Sunday comes and I get this crazy craving for some pizza (normally a whole pizza). I know that I am pretty much gaining back any wieght that was lost during the week but for some reason I cnat break this cycle so I have 2 questions
1. what is or was your cheat food of choice
2. how did you break the habit of eating that food once or twice a week

Diets are cool and all, but normally people have a food they love to indulge in.

The best way I have found to deal with that, is to indulge.

However, do so rarely, weekly, monthly whatever. Just dont break the routine and indulge constantly.

Secondly, when you indulge, don't over-do-it. Love pie, eat a slice. Love chocolate cake, eat a peice. Love pizza, go to the pizza joint and get a slice.

Make your indulgences, a treat, a small treat.

Eating a pizza once a month in a night, is worse that eating a slice every few weeks.

I read this somewhere (I forgot...some magazine) and it basically said that there are two types of people: Switchers and Dimmers.
Dimmers are those types who are consistent with their diet/lifestyle choices, and if they do decide to "take a break" for a while, they deliberate on it and do it slowly (ex.eating a slice of pizza on "off" days).

Switchers are exactly that..on and off. When they're on the diet, they're really good. Once they go off it, they go all out and binge to death ex. Eating the whole pizza, two bags of chips, etc. (lol..sounds like me! :p)

*sigh* I'm an all or nothing kind of person (Enneagram 7 anyone? But thats a different topic altogether)...and I've been battling this affliction my whole life. Hehe.

I suppose if you really want to be successful in your dieting/weight loss endeavours, you should try to be as consistent as you can...and if you do fall off the wagon, try to be a dimmer instead of a switch ;) (easier said than done)

everything i "couldn't" eat.
ultimately it all comes down to input vs output. eat less than you burn, that's all that matters.

i was bulimic/anorexic for almost 10 years, but only when i gave all that up and let myself eat what i wanted did i lose weight & keep it off (60 lbs, 3.5 years ago). the all-or-nothing mentality of an eating disorder is the same thought process a lot of people who try to go on diets have, and that's why they fail before they even start.

you can lose weight and eat pizza and chocolate and pastries as long as you keep track of what you're consuming. if you start to breed healthy habits into your daily routine you'll most likely start to make better choices than fatty & sugary foods anyway, but at a basic level calories are calories, and if you keep track every day you can eat whatever you want and still lose weight.
if you think of something as kryptoninte you're setting yourself up for failure.

I work out a lot, run, bike, climb, lift weights...I can eat whatever I want if I do this (actually have a hard time keeping lean muscle mass on I need to eat so much!). I'm 25 and I already notice this slowing down.

Maybe you just need to compensate with moving your body?

You still need to be aware of cholestrol, sodium, all the rest of the 'bad stuff' to get in overabundance (oversimplification I'm lazy lol).,

I stay active when i am not at work. Thats another problem. Untill this year I always worked outside with either a landscaping or construction job. I just need to be more consistent with my diet which is easier said than done.

Ben & Jerry's Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream. If you've never had it, do yourself the biggest favor in the world and go buy a pint. I swear to all that is Holy that you will LOVE it.

I have no cheat foods on my diet (gluten free, I'm celiac).
I used to cheat with pizza but when I realized the severe damage "cheating" like this was doing to me, I had to stop completely.
Sadly, this is one diet I can never cheat on again. I wish it were possible.

I'm a strange kid, always have been when it came to food. I never have much of an appetite and typically don't eat as much as I should. I'm also vegan (touchy stomach), and noticed it's common to lose those food "cravings" with such a diet (for me atleast). I will cheat every now and then with a slice of pizza, but since I moved out of NY, I'm really not that tempted to "cheat" as often as I used to.

However, I'm finding it hard recently to give up a cup of coffee in the morning. I sleep like a zombie and it's very hard for me to wake up in the morning, usually taking a few hours to be fully "there." Staring at a computer screen with hot black coffee (usually refilled 2 or 3 times) in the morning is the only thing that makes up for the fact that I have to be there at all. I tried replacing it with amphetamines and it just doesn't have that satisfying"rush" that the coffee tends to have on my mind and spirit in those grim hours of the morning.

Does coffee count?

my cheatfoods are processed carbs and sugar. Like a bowl of cereal with powdered milk and Nesvita..arrrrrrrrgh. Or a peanut butter, jelly and butter sandwich. Or potato chips.

I try to limit it tho as carbs are the death of me :p

I'm like samadhi_smiles...I cheat then work out until I feel better about eating, then as long as I actually work out after I eat, I don't gain weight. Lately I've been not working out though...so I try not to eat until I know I can force myself to work it off. Not a great pattern to get into, but it doesn't bother me or my body..yet.

Carbohydrates are the fucking enemy. ;)

I guess mine would be crisps or chips.

I often get an urge for savory things. Or more specifically, salt. Anything deep fried I would cover it in salt and mayonnaise. I've pretty much got it under control these days though.

I've been vegetarian for like 3 or 4 years now, and I've finally decided to go vegan. It's something that makes perfect sense to me at this stage in my life, and so I really see myself seeing it through. Psychologically speaking I don't even want to eat those types of things anymore. I've had to change a lot of my habits and I feel better for it in every conceivable way. :)
