What effect did the jwh ban have (if any)?

It’s been a month and ten days since the DEA’s emergency ban of 5 synthetic cannabinoids (JWH-018, JWH-200, CP-47, CP-497, and JWH-073) so we (Dope Game News) decided to ask our readers (and BlueLight!) if the ban has made any impact. The results will be used later this week in a new article covering developments in new legislation, loopholes in the ban, and use of synthetic cannabiniods.

Did the emergency ban of 5 synthetic cannabinoids in March stop people from using “spice” incense blends?

John W Huffman, the chemist who lead the research team that synthesized these synthetic cannabinoids, created dozens (upon dozens) of these research chemicals - many of which were not affected by this schedule. The DEA, for once, made a very legitimate call in this particular scenario. I have first-hand experience with spiraling out of control with John's research chemicals over an established period of time, and I can only conclude that this game of tug-of-war has just begun; that is, until the DEA carefully revises their Controlled Substances Act.

The only thing this scheduling did, at least for me and the people I associate with, was fluctuate the market and spark an even higher interest among previously addicted users. After all, once we've reached the point of playing Russian Roulette with our lives, whether or not the next shot actually fires or not is beyond mere retribution. Legitimately addicted users of these research chemicals, including myself, absolutely do not find a hard time establishing the next legal synthetic alternative.

The chemists are one step ahead of the lawmakers in this situation. The fact that these compounds were given life by a federally funded institute for drug abuse is highly ironic to say the least, but as long as Uncle Sam gets his cut - and of course, researchers are "further able to document and analyze cannabinoid receptors and their role in our mood and appetite", everyone stays happy. Alleged criminals, prosecuted for possessing a natural herb grown from our own soil, will continue to diverge urinary analysis techniques as long as these analogues are considered legal; regardless of customer consumption, the multi-million dollar industry shows no hint of subsiding anytime soon whether the Feds decide to pick 5 out of the dozens to criminalize or not.

it's done absolutely nothing where I live.
the spice and charge packages remain the same, except the words "not for human consumption" are stamped on there somewhere.

however, I think the shit's quality has gone down. I'm currently experiencing HPPD from the use of RCs, so i'd say still stay the hell away from it.

I think they kept the K2 name but just changed the ingredients to something other then K2 where I live. Probably replaced it with Damiana or something.

I don't know if you saw it in the Drugs/Media forum yet, but a bill is currently circulating that would ban waaaaaay more than just the 5 chemicals in the emergency schedule, including several other cannabinoids and about half of PiHKAL.

Loopholes would be fewer and farther between if it passes. :(

Around here it's called K3 now, and has been for quite awhile. I live in one of the first states to ban 018 and 073. I have no idea what's actually in it. Don't really care, I just order the pure chemical because it's far cheaper. If they ban them all I'll just order from foreign sources.

They are still effective and I have seen more than ever before where I live. One store has around 100 different ones.

im with frying squirrel on this on all it made me do was get smart and go online for any sort of JWH product it is soooooo much more cost effective

I'm not from the U.S. but I'd just want to put my two cents in. Demand for any drug is hardly disrupted by some law regulations. This has been observed with a lot of psychoactive substances. The actual reason why some drugs disappear having been banned is the fact they weren't so much abusable. All drugs that have been banned recently find their way to the black market and what's more interesting people who used to buy it legally before a ban know where to look for drugs they want now.

People may not find contacts to get heroin or cocaine because these drugs have had their scenes for years and they've become less accessible. It's been decades since their ban so people in these scenes avoid any unwanted uncovering. It's totally different with such drugs like cannabinoids, mephedrone and drugs alike, and many more.

EDIT: I just want to excuse myself of posting here. "Spice" mixtures are illegal in Poland as they had been banned along with all "boosters" ("afterburners") and street funshops had been closed closed much earlier than these cannabinoids were banned in the U.S.

Formally, 1-pentyl-3-(1-naphthoyl)indole isn't put on any list of illegal substances but it still falls under "Spice" so there may be some confusion like "Spice" mixture (i.e. a colored package with contents to be smoked) is illegal but buying JWH-018 may be legal (there's no specific act for JWH-018 and there's no act specifying what "Spice"contains).

I'm not sure which forum this thread belongs in, but it's certainly not a study per se. I'm going to try Drug Culture, though it could also thrive easily in CEP.

ebola

I use to use this stuff every day and did until I got off probation and went to regular weed. I abused the hell out of that stuff for about 4 total months (missing the summer) until I got onto weed. Within in 3 days I wasn't even thinking about the blends and had fallen in love with weed.

Crazy man...I was drug tested by the courts for 9 months and used the now banned substances heavily. The ban came literally 2 weeks before I stopped being tested. So, has not really had an effect on me...

No effect, stocked up as most people had about 2 weeks to do so if they wanted to... and a few extra days afterwards email vendors were furiously selling the now-banned JWH powder at almost cost- one at loss - ridiculous deals.

for those who buy the pure chemical im sure it changed things. but the people i know only use jwh's in the form of spice or what have you (i dont like the stuff). but in my experience it didnt change a thing, christmas eve (when the ban was supposed to start) i was at my local legal high shop i guess you could call it, and they had probably at least a half dozen new brands and tehy were stronger than before.
