substituting alcohol for weed never worked for me – it’s disinhibition on top of my destabilised mind producing some very nasty responses
benzos can help the agitation of withdrawal but do nothing for the emotional black hole many users fall into without thc and can compound the hopeless apathy. Benzos like thc also can activate muchies.
heroin works very well but it's obviously not something I could recommend. Latterly opium tea was tried with less positive effects but my weed habit had also worsened in the last few years
ibogaine has been used for coke/h addiction etc. I did use weed less for a while after my one moderate exposure to this drug which is interesting
I understand that medically both benzos & librium have been used to help cannabis users who are having withdrawal and I'm sure in some cases antidepressants may work although I personally consider these about the filthiest drugs going. Generally where treatment is available to stoners it is non-drug orientated - therapy, relaxation CBT acupuncture etc.
Reiki acupuncture etc have actually had very positive effects with hard-core crack cocaine users but much less successful with cannabis users who have a very high drop out rate.
There is also cannabis anonymous if you’re into crappy christian 12 steps programs & a few small internet sites like
http://www.dopeheads.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/
that would need more members before acting as a support network. If anyone else knows of other resources or what is available in various countries it might be worth posting here.
Sorry if this is a bring down for the majority who can harmlessly enjoy weed but for a minority this is a very real problem
