So, fess up. Maybe even brag a little bit. Describe what is cool about where you live. Everyone loves to gloat a little bit, and well, I don't know about you guys, but I love to travel.

Perhaps a thread like this could provide quality travel ideas for others and I. It could almost be "travel brochure-esque." Or something =D

I'll start....

I like Milwaukee because we have the nation's largest music festival, we're known for being fat beer drinkers ( hey its not that bad ), and Harley-Davidson is based here.

Well, Being Canadian, I can brag about a whole hell of a lot (sorry, have a slight hate-on for america at the moment... anyone who supports Bush should be shot.) But lving in Calgary, home of the largest outdoor show on earth (the stampede) I am a proud member of the hick phenomenon. I love the fact that people stereotype hicks for the 'cletus the slackjawed yokle' types, so in the end we come out on top (from the lack of cockiness).

I love being canadian, I love being passive agressive (violence solves nothing!!) and though I dislike any type of government, I love being liberal in a neo-conservative tightass epidemic... what can I say? I like to shake things up!

i love arizona... because its not too big, not too small... we have the most GORGEOUS nights... hot summer days, and cool summer nights that were just MEANT to be enjoyed by the pool with a margarita in hand...

i like that its laid back enough that we dont run around and work ourselves to death like other large cities in this country, but busy enough that theres always SOMETHING to do if you take the time to look.

we also have some of the most beautiful desert in the country, gorgeous mountains, excellent colleges, huuuuuge real estate boom (az is growing fastest in the nation!) and AMAZING shopping! :)

Well, Im living in CT right now, but I was born and raised in Philadelphia. And I love Philly because of...

Historical sites and items (Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross house etc)
The (Ben) Franklin Institute
Philadelphia Museum of Art
Cobblestone streets in some parts
Colonial buildings
Tightly knit but still diverse nightlife
Close to the mountains and the beach
Cheesesteaks
Wawa hoagies
Rita's Water Ice
Soft pretzels
Yuengling beer

and so much more :D

Im posting again :o

I like Boston because we are all bitches and its acceptable here haha! I like Boston for the sports fans'..theyre all hardcore, whether its for the Red Sox/NE Patriots/Bruins/Celtics, theyre all loved and you dont see the depth it runs here in every city. I love being able to use the "i got stuck on the T" excuse for being late to work!!! I like that we have the biggest construction project in the US currently still going, its such a conversation starter.

this was my lame attempt to love a city i hate. Its slowly growing on me if you can see past my bitterness.

is that really bigger than Coachella or Burning Man....

or even ATL's Midtown Music Fest...? (last time reportedly clocked half a mil people)

sometimes i forget how huge these festivals can get... 5hit like that's gotta be crazy to be in!!!

(edit: nevermind, last year was almost 1 million people -- that's crazy!!!! but then again, DEMF clocks around that too a couple times... so i guess we should all be used to it... ;) ooh, and Prince will be playing this year, too!!!)

WOOOOOOOOO SUMMERFEST! I can't wait to hang out on "the rocks!!!" (for those who don't get what it is - Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera (well, she just canceled cuz she's "sick), Prince, Crosby Stills & Nash, John Mayer, Maroon 5, Nickleback, 3 Doors Down, Blink-182, Motion City Soundtrack, AND MANY MORE are playing on the "Main stage," which means you have to buy tickets...ick..., but there's also hundreds of bands playing for free inside the festival grounds for only an $11 entry ticket. Not to mention all the fun social aspects and cool shit you can buy there)

i LOVE milwaukee because I think it's a great city in general. It has an awesome music scene (plus summerfest!), a beautiful lakefront, two awesome museums, one with an IMAX theater, TONS of fun clubs and bars, an active/beautiful downtown area, lots of parks, lots of drugs :D, and lots of fun shit to do in general. The east side kicks ass! Ma Fischer's, Webb's, OG's, and Pizza Shuttle - always open to aid your stoner ass at 2 in the morning! - 'nuff said. :) I also really like the fact that it's a big city that's not TOO big. I like being a "city girl," but I find places like NY, LA, Chicago, and the like to be a bit overwhelming. Milwaukee is a nice happy medium.

wow! is that the total for the 11 days added together or is that days of tickets sold?

That's the whole week added up, but the bulk of people come on the last two days for the 3rd of July fireworks on the lake and the 4th of July Big Bang fireworks on the summerfest grounds. And those numbers don't reflect the number of people who sneak in (which is surprisingly large), or the people who staff the place (hundreds if not thousands) who do go to all the concerts and stuff etc. when their shifts are over, or the people who come in multiple times using the special summerfest pin you can buy (if you get lucky you get a 'multiple-entry' pin). On a good day, there will be about 11,000 people there at night. Oh my fucking god i can't wait to go.... :)

^ I hope you're joking. 11,000 on a good night?

There have been plenty of days where there was over 100,000 people in attendance throughout the course of the day. The Marcus Amphitheatre holds over 11,000 people all by itself. I'd say there are probably closer to 50,000+ people there on an average night.

So I found some statistics...

Here's a wrap up containing some numbers of interest that occurred during Summerfest 2002...

columbus, ohio. it's a really nice small big city, personally i enjoy the vast amount of nice lounges that support housemusic in the city (and we have some awesome housemusic dj's in c-bus), and the fact that we're a destination now for the best d.j.'s in the world thanks to a good scene and strong promoters/owners. ohio state football is like an infection here bringing everybody together against the whole state of michigan... ohio state brings a constant flow of young adults into the community along with around 10 other smaller colleges/universities in the city, and we have one of the best restaraunts in the world- the refectory (mmmm...) spring and summer brings some awesome community-oriented festivals, and we're centrally located to all the great amusement parks in ohio... and only a stone's throw away from partying in cleveland, or if you want to slum it- toledo, indianapolis, cincinnati, or pittsburgh.

granted i am leaving columbus in a little over a year for good, i've got nothing against the town really.

I read something the other day that said WI has something called "Badger Attitude" that encourages a culture of alcohol use so profound that we lead the nation in binge drinking....this study focused on Badger ladies, who are #1 in the country in booze consumption...well, what the fuck, its cold here and winter is long...Even with many rednecks, I like WI...

i fthat's the case, it sounds like there are a lot of people who are being counted twice or more. i sthat likely to be offset by those sneaking in and working there? who knows.

i was at first really impressed and now i'm just slightly impressed.

Colorado

Colorado rocks, plain and simple.
First off.. lemme start off be expelling the rumor that colorado is cold and snowy:
Denver averages over 300 days of sunshine a year - can't beat that.
2nd.. can be the middle of december, snow a ton, and it be gone the next day when you wake up. I've gotten extremely sunburned on Easter before.

Tons of sights to see.. lots of parties, lots of concerts, TONS of stuff to do if you're the outdoorsy type (which I'm not).

now.. for the sights..

Red Rocks
Garden of the Gods
Pikes Peak
Dinosaur National Monument
Great Sand Dunes National Monument and Preserve
Buffalo Bill Museum & Grave
The Stanley Hotel

AND TONS TONS MORE http://www.colorado.com for more info

People are generally nice.. drive like shit.. but not too bad. LOTS AND LOTS of hotties. Just overall beautiful views in colorado, from landscape to people. Also, I think Colorado ranks in the top 10 for skinniest states. WOO!
