What can I do about the left turn out of my house?

So, I have a little bit of problem with driving. When I get out of my house, there is a stop sign, and at that stop sign I can turn left or right. The right turn is easy and not a concern. The left turn however, is what scares me but the left turn is of necessity because practically every single place that I go to is on the left side of my town and not the right. This includes the library, pharmacy, doctor, restaurants, and most importantly, work. If I take the right turn, I can eventually get to all the destinations on the left but it takes 10 minutes more and I have to traverse a school zone which I don't know whether it has speed cams, also a railroad crossing. It's really fucked up. I can make the turn but I have to be in the right mind set. Any amount of hesitation from anxiety or hesitation could lead to death. Obviously I have to go to work everyday and I have to take the same route. Another thing that makes it harder is that people speed. If they are going faster than 70 miles per hour, I really cannot see them. I do have car insurance. My parents bought me the cheapest insurance possible. If I do end up in an accident, surely my insurance will go up, and I will be taken off the insurance which means i can't drive. Then I have to quit my job and become some kind of homeless. It really stresses me out. Uber is an option too but I really don't make much and if I take uber, it is certainly going to cost half my paycheck. I don't know. I been driving for 10 years, which means I definitely have the experience. It's the fear that motivates me.

Is this for real? Derek Zoolander, is that you?

yeah, I'm kind of Derek Zoolander for sure. but i can turn left. It's just a bit harder for me

I'm just a little lost here. Why is it hard to make the left turn? Is there a blind curve? Also, why would a school zone be an issue or a railroad crossing for that matter?

It sounds like OP has driving anxiety. I too have driving anxiety, and I am at the point that I get freaked out when I drive.

Deadendgame: Were you ever in an accident, or seen a bad accident?

no, i was never in an accident. but it can happen any day. someone is seriously gonna die on that turn!

I'd try to contact the town planning executive/or state if is on the freeway (dunno about the traffic planning authorities in your country) and inquire to change the concerning cross. If there is no reaction I'd go to the press immediately and get a sweeping story out of it. IMHO it is a nogo, that one is allowed to go fucking 70mph on a dangerous cross.

i have driving anxiety as well and the best advice is just do it
fear is powerful in its own right....as my therapist said..mind you hes about 60 65 yrs old
fuck fear or fear is gonna fuck you....haha it really knocked some sense into me
i would be scared just to get into a car after an accident i had
but after awhile i just got in one day and nothing happen, i went around the block and nothing happen
not without a shit ton of anxiety but nothing what i envisioned in my head happen

eventually the panic decreased over time..still not cured
because i dont have a need to drive everyday so i dont get much practice
im sure with more time behind the wheel things will become 2nd nature again

I appreciate your diving anxiety, but it also sounds legitimately dangerous. You said everything is still accessible when you make the right turn, it just takes 10 minutes longer. If I were in your position I would accept the extra 10 minutes and just take the safer route. I live in eastern North Carolina and we have some nasty situations on some of the back roads. People speed, people don't pay attention, and because it is rural the state/county doesn't deem those areas a high enough priority to implement change, even though a couple of people die every year at the same locations. Unfortunately, it is what it is and odds are not in your favour that it will change. Is your life or somebody else's life worth saving 10 minutes? Do you want to potentially live the rest of your life having experienced a fatal accident? I would accept the situation and work toward saving money to move eventually.

aye man, DONT fear death. It is GOING to happen to all of us. i used to be scared to die. till i survived a wreck i never should of survived. ive had 4 surgeries in the last 9 years cuz of it but it made me look death in the face and spit. since then ive almost welcomed death. it made my life easier.

If the turn is that dangerous, your anxiety is that high, then it seems that spending a mere 10 minutes more getting to the same destination by turning right isn't the end of the world. And I would see an expert about the anxiety, you can free yourself from that.
