Really should read some Philip K. Dick. He's referenced in almost everything. That 'black iron subdermal prison' concept is simple yet so true.

On my second translation of The Idiot by good old Fyodor 'Dusty' Dostoyevsky. My favourite of his. Struck a chord with me all those years ago, and maybe more so now. God bless the old misanthropic, anti-semitic Russian dead man.

"For some people, happy hour is never enough

This is a book about escape. It's also about laughing gas. And bourbon and dope and sex and mushrooms and every other vice millions of us indulge in to forget our jobs, the office, and the stifling, corporate caricatures we're forced to become for paychecks. This is a book about a decade lost in a senseless career no one likes and all the ridiculous things I did to run from it. In the end, it's probably your story as much as mine. We're everywhere. We just can't say it out loud."

The informed heart by bruno bettleheim
He was a psychoanalyst who got thrown in dachau, not an easy read but very accessible non the less!
I sell books so every room of my house contains piles of the fuckers!

if you're into Iain M Banks, you'd definitely love Alastair Reynolds.

I think Ian M Banks is the best thing since sliced bread, and i couldn't stand Alastair Reynolds.

Admitedly i only read one of his books quite a few years ago now, but i remember it reading like Rambo in space where he had a potentially interesting sci-fi universe, the implications of which he ignored to follow some interstellar covert security gaurd going about a secret mission involving shooting people for some reason i forget.

Personally, for fans of epic sci-fi, (other than Ian M Banks) i'd recomend Peter F. Hamilton. He's not quite as clever with the plots or as properly science-fictiony but he writes fairly lengthy space operas that are extremely enjoyable to read if you like that sort of thing and make for slightly easier reading than Ian M Banks (one of his series of novels effectively involves space-zombies coming back from the dead).

Chuffed to see other EADDers are so into Iain Banks too - is it a druggy thing or what?

I suspect there is a certain cross over of interests between people who like psychadelics and people who like science-fiction. That and the drug glands.

ronan keatings autobiography life is a rollercoaster. havent got very far yet, bought it for 50 pence. bargain. bet itll be worth every penny. actually, i d be better off just sitting down reading it rather than going through all this random stuff.

to do list to write. or a not to do list might be easier.

Im reading Chris Evan 2nd biography. I like it. It all about the time he made squillions of ££s and then went on a 5 year holiday with his new 18yr old bride. He was my age now, when he was doing all that. - Jammy fucker

Pink: What an incredible coincidence that it got the same name as one of his smash hit "musical" turds. A cynical person might even come to the conclusion that it was not so much an autobiography as a ghost written sales package to milk the cash cow till its udders burst. Not me though. I'd just consider it a waste of 50p that could've bought me a pint of milk that would provide infinitely more pleasure ;)

Currently reading Programming The Universe by Seth Lloyd. Tis about quantum computing and the wider connotations of us living in a universe that is in essence also a quantum computer. Good stuff. Almost taught me how to count in binary too. Almost. Have learnt enough to understand a binary gag though - "There are only 10 types of people who understand binary: Those who do and those who don't". Tee-hee and apologies for those that read the same gag when posted in Gibberings.

Also, many thanks to a certain BL Lovely for lending it to me <3

after finishing ''A Conspiracy of Fools'' by Kurt Eichenwald and thoroughly enjoying it's in depth revelations about Skilling, Lay, Fastou, et al and their roles in robbing Enron and the tax payers.

now it's onto ''The end of Oil'' by Paul Roberts . As it was published in 2005, I don't know how dated the info within is going to seem.

always have a 'pulp fiction' novel as candy on the shelf. last was the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson. great stuff that.

Tweek.....

'Tweak' By Nic Sheff. It a really great book. Its the true story of how the author Nic Sheff struggled with drug addiction from a very young age.

He is from San Fransisco & he comes from a well to do family. He starts drinking & using drugs from a very young age & ends up strung out on Heroin & Crystal Meth. The drugs totally take him over!! (as they do!!!)

The book takes you along on his journey through San Fran & drugs, he is very honest in the book & he often talks very frankly about the down side & the side effects of drug addiction. He also explains very well what he loves so much about the drugs & he explains the buzz that he gets from the different drugs!! He really does get himself in some dodgy situations along the way!!!

Nic Sheff is a very like~able character & you really feel like your going through all the ups & downs with him. I really enjoyed his book & i would recommend it!! :D
