I shall do, his writing style is very much how i like in books. The darker side of life, not a glamorized ideal world. Queer, i will look into that cheers man.

Just finished the life of pi for the second time, brilliant book one of my favorites :)

I've never finished that; someone stole it from me in a hostel in Aus, was almost at the end too. Gutted! :D

I've never got 'round to getting another copy n finishing it, but t'was a good read! I'm reading Crash at the moment by J.G. Ballard. It's pretty amazing and sick, but i've been quite rubbish with reading recently. Need a book seshhhh, i still have loads of books around I aint read.

Mrs Shambles has promised to lend me his books after we recently had the traditional "Hippy God or Cult-leader, Bullshit Artist and Murderous Scumfuck?" debate. Which I "won" naturally ;)

I've not actually read any of his stuff what with him being an insufferable arse and all that - it's hardly stopped me from reading other moron's output, though :D - but is it actually any good once you get past the swathes of bullshit is the question I still have... Suppose I'll find out soon enough :)

Zola is on my "To Read" list but have yet to cross paths with any of his work. From the little I've gathered, he seems like my kinda chap though :)

Well I wasn't all that entranced by it at all, the main section took only a few hours to read and wasn't exceptionally well written, kind of bland if anything. The last part is a short analysis which I've yet to read. But I did like Don Juan as a character and his ethos appealed to me somehow. For the most part though it didn't live up to my expectations after hearing my father make allusions to it throughout my life. I wouldn't recommend it over Zola though, I'd strongly suggest setting your path directly at the nearest library and get Germinal out. Despite being translated from french the quality of the writing and story telling is not lost.

^ Thanks for the recommendation :)

'Cities Of The Red Night' is arguably his strongest work.

One of my favourites of his, for sure. Even borders on having a comprehensible plot in places 8o

Was the first part of a trilogy if memory serves. Memory doesn't serve well though so could be mistaken and can't remember what the other two are called if it is 8)

Terry Pratchett - Wyrd Sisters

It's awesome! Almost as good as Douglas Adams works!

quite liking this..scar night

Just started the new George Pelecanos novel, The Way Home.

I've read all of his books and most are great. The last one was a bit shite though, but this one seems pretty good.

If you've not heard of him before, he did a lot of writing for The Wire.

just read

Last Exit to Brooklyn is divided into six parts that can, more or less, be read separately. Each part is prefaced with a passage from the Bible.

* Another Day, Another Dollar: A gang of young Brooklyn hoodlums hang around an all-night cafe and get into a vicious fight with a group of sailors on shore leave.
* The Queen Is Dead: Georgette, a transvestite hooker, is thrown out of the family home by her brother and tries to attract the attention of a hoodlum named Vinnie at a benzedrine-driven party.
* And Baby Makes Three: An alcoholic father tries to keep good spirits and maintain his family’s marriage traditions after his daughter becomes pregnant and then marries a motorcycle mechanic.
* Tralala: The title character, a young Brooklyn prostitute, makes a living propositioning sailors in bars and stealing their money. In perhaps the novel’s most notorious scene, she is gang-raped after a night of heavy drinking.
* Strike: Harry, a machinist in a factory, becomes a local official in the union. He is a blustering, inadequate man and a brutal husband. He gains a temporary status and importance during a long strike, and uses the union's money to entertain the young street punks and buy the company of drag queens.
* Landsend: Described as a “coda” for the book, this section presents the intertwined, yet ordinary day of numerous denizens in a housing project.

excellent read, I was drawn in and couldn't put it down, I love Selby Jr's stream of consciousness style.

Currently reading The Turnaround and The Night Gardener By Pelecanos. Well I've been reading NG for about a month but its annoying me,meanwhile I read the Turnaround about 50% of the way through on Monday night prior to having a 17 hour blackout for multiple reasons:|
Read Last exit to Brooklyn 3 times, but its really good until the striking where it seems to stop dead. Got Waiting Period but never managed to finish it.
Also reading Martian Time Slip by Philip K Dick, got most of his books but haven't read them for years....A Scanner Darkly might be my favourite book ever.Going to read Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane tommorrow on my GBL withdrawal and might finish it as I'm not expecting any sleep....just have to avoid methadone/heroin or opium..
