It's the endless lists of who's wearing what and so forth that make it hard going sometimes, I found Snolls. Great book but my good golly gosh there's some detailed descriptions of anything and everything with a brand name in there :D

PS: Watch out for rat infestations :|

yeah haha, you're the second person that's said that to me, tis a bit of a pain sometimes isn't it! i find myself skimming over them sometimes then feeling bad and going back and reading it all properly. probably why it's taking me so long! got the film to watch after the book as well like

The film was really very good I though, Snolldoll. Is loads better than most Hollywoodshite versions of great books. No rats though... :\

Those interminable label-dropping pages help define the state of mind I suppose, but it's hard not to glaze over whilst reading them every now and again :|

Is a top book though - even the bits that read like a pigdog's wet dream. I suspect Mr Bateman was based on our Kid...

Or possibly Edde.

PS: I've only just realised that Kappa's avatar is Patrick Bateman. I always thought it was Chris Morris :o

oh good! i've heard varying opinions on it and i'm always a bit apprehensive of film adaptations. i've yet to watch catch 22 even though i bought it a year or so ago now.

tis a very good book though, can't believe it's taken me this long to get round to reading it. i heard of the film first and thought it'd be a typical hollywood slasher thing and so assumed the book would be gash. so i was pleasantly surprised!

got irvine welsh's latest book to read too, got halfway through it then stopped for some reason.

^
Funny that. I'm just starting chapter 16 of catch - 22:)

Ooh, read it before or is it first time through? i don't know whether to re-read it before i start the sequel. am a bit indecisive :(

What is his latest book?

Last I read was 'Bedroom Secret of the Masterchefs' which was good.

most recent one is a collection of three short stories i think called 'if you liked school, you'll love work'. was out in 2007, think he's released summat else since then, reading his wiki entry. pretty good stuff like. also liked bedroom secrets myself, but was a bit disappointed at the ending.

going to re-read trainspotting and porno soon i think. also just realised i can't find my copy of glue, which is a fucker.

edit: found it! love that book, remember spending hours reading it on speed while everyone else was playing chu-chu rocket

Glue, Trainspotting and Porno are quality!

I'll be sure to check out the new one at some point, I need something new to read. Tend ti just read travel books these days would be good to get something different.

excellent news, thanks shammy :D might watch that tonight then. the book is similarly rather good, hoping the sequel is too

I <3 Herman Hesse :D

But that is the one that I've never read but always wanted to. It's the one he won the Nobel Prize for so I presume it has some kind of merit :)

I've enjoyed every other book of his I've read and look forward to reading that one sometime. I'd be gobsmacked if it were anything less than brilliance cos all his others are - enjoy :)

cool, wish i could make more progress, its quite long but i wanna take it in nice n slow.,

Have just finished Gil Scott-Heron's "The Vulture" and just started the "The Nigger Factory". To be honest, he's not a great authour and some of his stuff is a bit awkward. I think "The Vulture" was written when he was 19 and it shows.

They're both extremely interesting books though, written about a time and a place in history which has not often been written about by those who really understood it so well worth a read, particularly if you like his music.

First reading here. I bought about seven books on Amazon last week that I thought must be read and it was one.

fantastic banality, second time I have read it, great stuff :)

I've just started to read "sometimes a great notion" by ken kesey. Really enjoyed one flew over the cuckoo's nest so i reckon im in for treat with this one.

^ Be interested to hear what you make of it :)

Each of Kesey's novels is vastly different to the other, so don't enter it expecting another 'Cuckoo' ;)

I'm currently re-reading my grandfather's copy of 'Secret Tibet' by Fosco Maraini.

hehe, i made a shopping list of must read books myself last night, got to harass dad first to see if he's got any of them before i buy though

Of course, I've been going through books like theres no tomorrow recently so ill probably be letting you know my thoughts quite soon :D

Ye im a big fan of kesey, after reading "the electric kool-aid acid test" by wolfe and recognizing what a huge influence he had on the 60's generation, ive set myself the task of reading through all his works. :)
