i think its funny to call atheist a religion cuz thats part of what they are trying to go against
for some it is a religion
but for most its just a way of thinking and it doesnt involve any practice or ritual
it aint a religion (...yet ; ) )
problem is a lot of atheist dont know much about religion because they are not interested in them cuz lots of bullshit has being shove down their throat and they try to get free from that and they try to get the world free from that cuz it didnt work for them
but then if you dont know much about religions and you end up saying that some religion arent religion cuz it doesnt fit your definition of what is a religion 8) well then you are doing it wrong
you dont need a god or deity or some magical unicorn to have a set of guidance that is share and expressed via practice and communion
they end up confusing theism with religion
so they think that atheism goes against religion
they miss the point between theism and deism
so theyll say that god is shit cuz religion is shit
but deism doesnt need religion or anything supernatural
you can believe in god and be science friendly, like Einstein
buts thats not what most atheist cared to hear about cuz they are angry at religion or i should say stupidity and they attribute stupidity (and many other things) to religion
but religion doesnt need stupidity to exist
and stupidity doesnt need religion to exist
you are suppose to pull out the atheist card when you go against deism if you care for a interesting philosophical discussion
if you use atheism against religion you are just stirring shit up cuz you are angry at the world and it doesnt do any good cuz you are attacking the wrong end
anyway
It's why humans disagree so much - we don't transmit ideas as well as we wish we could. The fact that we can communicate at all is miraculous!
+1
sorry if this is a lame tangeant from topic question, but sidenote: does anyone else think the world would be infinitely better AND more religious if all children were raised without religion, but encouraged to discover their own beliefs? sorry if that's like a "do you want me to stab you in the face" kind of question
i was thinking about that yesterday, but its like saying let them kid decide what language they want to speak, what they want to be called, what they want to learn about...
basically let them choose what kind of upbringing they want, what kind of influence, what kind of food, music, movie...
cuz its all part of the culture they are born into
why would you not share with your kids who you are, what you like, what you believe in...
then as adult they be whatever thell choose to be
theyll choose whatever they want and theyll share it with their kids cuz thats who they are
the whole notion of discarding 1 part of culture, in this case religion, makes no sense
its part of a whole, and it all is a agenda,
the whole cultural language is a bias
Religion is not based on observations of the surrounding world but rather is learnt from books written by people. There is no reason to believe anything written in a religious text, not because I think it's wrong, or I "believe" that there is no god, but rather there is no evidence to suggest that it is correct.
how about religion based on observations of the surrounding world
and why would you believe whats written in a science book if you havent done the experiments, the calculations..yourself
cuz you believe in the scientific method and its integrity ?
cuz we got cars and planes and computers so it must work right
i've seen it too, but i still say he doesn't exist
what if thats what god is, everything (omnipotence) including non-existence
so it defies (linear) logic
Again, what? I find a book that was written two thousand years ago by people far less intelligent or loving than myself,
why is it that science is all about the latest discovery while religion is always about some very very old book, the older the better, it gives it some legitimacy
ever thought about it ?
maybe they are not the same thing and are not dealing with the same dimension of life
maybe one came out at a time where humans started experiencing things that differentiated us to our older self, a more animalistic state where we didnt have consciousness to the extent of our new self
maybe back then we were a lot closer to the basics of being one with the universe (god) but then the whole metaphor of the "garden of eden" that we fell off out of it and became conscious and its being a curse and a blessing ever since
consciousness is a bitch
but we use to be unified with the all encompassing unconsciousness (god)
and those old books are closer to that source
it aint science, it doesnt deal with the same reality (tho both are tied together, they are opposite and complimentary (like the opposite sex))
see in this christian tale its about a god creating humans
its how those primitive men found a way to explain their creation
from unconscious animal to conscious human
"god chosen people" i mean i guess there was a time when not all human where self conscious
so you wonder what is this ? where did it came from ? so you make a tale about your understanding of what happen and pass it down to your people to enlighten then too, you create culture, history, art... its all related to the creation of consciousness
so obviously youll cherish that all loving god that gave birth to it all
so then you might wonder how that is still relevant today to some people and how they take the tale seriously now that we have super science to explain so much more
but then science tells that tale from a head perspective and religion has lived in our hear for thousands of years, its a huge cultural heritage filled with stories and poetry and art and philosophies and guidance and good words and a lot of people still connect to it all to the point of blowing themselves up to protect it
which makes no sense unless you feel a connection to it
its like the placebo effect, it doesnt work for some cuz the pill is empty but it works for some
and it works really really really well for some
and it doesnt matter if its there or not inside the pill or if there is a god or not (or whatever else)
cuz the result, the experience is real
and that is real, that is the reality people lives in
some people are really really affected by that placebo effect
and even if you are not affected by the placebo effect there is still beauty to be found inside our human history
from a head point of view with science our with our heart through religions
And the reason why there are so many interpretations of religion, is because it is wrong. If it was right, you would only need one version, seeing as how God is omnipotent and perfect. Religion wouldn't be subjected to the same standards as everything else if it was the true word of God.
there is so many interpretation maybe cuz it is of suggestive mater and everyone is right ? as long as it works for them
but then the ego gets caught up in it so some will say that red is the best color cuz its their favorite and theyll go at war with those who say that blue is the all mighty color of heaven...
but thats the ego
everyone is right, everyone is wrong
it all depends on the angle you take it from
but youll take it from your own perspective (thats the ego)
until you can find yourself in others, and then everyone is right from their own point of view, thats why they believe in what they believe in
Also, the reason why we have religion in the first place (and certainly why it is still around today in our modern and scientific society) is because people are ignorant, lazy, and scared, and don't want to admit the truth. People will go to extraordinary lengths to deny things that (even though they are true) would make them unhappy. Don't like the idea of your dead 5 year old child being gone forever? Just invent a magical, happy place where everything is perfect and where he/she will live forever and where you will join him/her soon.
so its wrong to believe in something that makes people feel better ?
your point is that yes if it includes doing arms to other
but then that goes back to the ego
you can use a scalpel to heal you can use it to kill
is the scalpel good or bad ?
its all about what people do with religion or whatever else they have
thats the ego
alcohol doesnt make people violent, guns dont kill people
its people who are violent in the first place that are gonna be violent while drunk, and you need to have it in you to kill someone, it aint in the gun
just like it aint in the religion
people will use religion for good or bad
good people will do good, bad people will do bad
thats the ego
and religion can make your ego more flexible and it can also make it less flexible
some mystical experience makes some people more humble and some more self absorb
what it does is playing with your ego and your sense of self
so you can learn to let go or you can learn to fight against
if you see heaven then youll learn to let go
if you see hell youll fight against
and youll see heaven if you are at peace
and youll see hell if you are at war
thats in your every day life, you dont need to die to go there
but then those who get more humble...do they care to tell others how its done or is it the self absorb ones who get to be the high priest
so then what kind of church do we get
what kind of government do we get
its the people who are not in control of themself who needs to control others, cuz they cant let go, cuz they are scared, cuz hell is right there within themself, and the worse they do it the more caught up into it they become, and the less they can let go, vicious circle...
and those viscous circles have being evolving for thousand of years and its all around
so you can find immense amount of bullshit in religion, its in there and its scary
but the good stuff is still there too, and its usually more quiet, but it gave birth to the bad stuff and the bad stuff gives birth to the good, good and bad are side of the same coin, opposites are complimentary
Atheism really irritates me, because it's generally completely negative. Almost every self-proclaimed "atheist" I have ever heard or seen, has been focused entirely on shooting down, undermining, and ridiculing other belief systems. Which, IMO, is utterly pointless! You don't change people's beliefs by telling them how stupid they are.
Any real spirituality or worldview should be an affirmation, not an attack.
