Post your favorites and / or any other books on philosophy or spirituality you're currently reading.

Also, tell us why they're your favorites / what you find interesting about what you're currently reading.

I'm reading Oneness by Rasha and its pretty amazing. It has become one of my favorite books on spirituality. Anyone here read it?

"Oneness" has become one of my favorites because unlike most books on spirituality Rasha honors the fact that we are each on our own unique spiritual paths. There are no timetables on the way to "enlightment," which is a great reminder when the teachings of so many teachers make you feel like you're on a race to the finish line of "awakening." This is one of the most profound books I have ever read.

When some people are looking for answers they will open the bible up to a random page and find the answers they are looking for. I use this book in the same way and the synchronicity that happens is incredible. This book is very powerful stuff.

Even if you're an atheist or an agnostic I recommend checking it out. If you were to substitute the metaphysics in the book into secular practices I think it would be a great read for those searching for a spiritual path.

Eckhart Tolle - The Power of Now, New Earth.

Good choices. These are some of my favorites as well. I really like "New Earth." If you like Eckhart Tolle I think you might be interested in "Oneness" by Rasha.

diary of a drug fiend

epic of gilgamesh

metamorphism by Ovid

Illms 3 / schrodingers cat

chaos theory

eternal golden braid : in spirit of lewis carol

the New Testament

... i think.

never read any of these except the NT. Will check them out.

This Is It - Alan Watts

Love Alan Watts! One of my favorite quotes from him is "When you get the message, hang up the phone." Would've been good advice to follow during my party days :D
I love listening to his lectures. I have "You're It!" and "Out Of Your Mind: The Nature of Consciousness." When I listen to these I can be totally sober and have a fantastic trip!

the universe/space stuff... is anybody like me? is anybody feeling more spiritual when reading about things like event horizont of black holes or stuff like that more than reading some bible blabl?

siddhartha by herman hess.

calculating god was another goody.

^Yes! I read that in Puerto Rico for the first time and there was free yoga lessons on the beach at the same time. I felt completely totally uplifted during my time spent there.

Also I like The Monk and the Philosopher and The Quantum and the Lotus each of these books are one giant dialog between Matthieu Ricard (a PhD in Molecular Biology who trained in Tibet for decades and is now a monk and author) and his father, who is the traditional western philosopher, and in Quantum and the Lotus he talks to Trinh Xuan Thuan, a person who grew up buddhist in Vietnam, but later trained to become an astrophysicist. Very cool exchanges about a wide variety of topics.
I also love Effortless Mastery by Kenny Werner

Yes I think that science can definitely give one meaning and wonder in life and is it's own spiritual path if seen in the right context. Here are two books that I read about the future of science and technology that I found really enjoyable:
Visions - How Science Will Revolutionize the 21st Century
and
This Will Change Everything: Ideas That Will Shape the Future

I also agree... when I start reading about the unbelievable structure of the cosmos, I can't help but smile and laugh that we take things so seriously here on our little rock!

Alan Watts - the Wisdom of Insecurity (Alan Watts is amazing)
Zhuangzi (an old Taoist text)
the Cloud of Unknowing (Christian Mysticism)

these would be my top three.
the most fascinating thing about these books/texts is that, while all written in different styles/times/places, they all proceed to challenge one's mind and, essentially, attempt to free "it" (one's mind) from itself. wonderful stuff.

Yes I must agree Adyashanti is up there. He is a great spiritual teacher and I love his energy - like that of an good friend (he's also pretty hilarious at times!). I also love the Existentialists as well. The "Myth of Sisyphus" by Camus is helped me through a time of major depression.

Why is Alice in Wonderland such a darling of mathematicians, scientists, and philosophers of the Analytical school?

Is this book jam packed with hidden allusions to famous musings on the human condition? Or was Mr. Carroll just at the right place at the right time, serving up a flavor of wit that those of a highly rational temperment appreciate?
