What are you reading now? vers. "So I don't end up being a fucking waffle waitress"

^Haha, you're going to love America if you ever visit. :D
My friend's over there at the moment and he's having In and Out burgers every few days.

I've heard of them, but with regard to food it just makes me think of eating and pooping. So let it not be said I have a one track mind, there are at least two tracks :D

When I was living in the land of fast food I would go to In and Out, Jack in the Box and Carl's Jr.

Carls Jr was good because you could get lots of food

AM-PM was also good for late night beer runs for Coors

So no one is reading A NEW EARTH at all? I just wanted to see what others thougt of it thats all... wouldn't mind some feedback :)

I'm going to read War and Peace but I need to finish this primer on Russian history so I know what's going on. I'm not even sure I have enough time to read a novel this size. Maybe I should break my teeth on something a little less ambitious, like Anna Karenina. What purpose will having read War and Peace really serve in life anyway?

^You'll have infinite bragging rights. Personally I'd just read a summary of War and Peace and pretend I know what I'm talking about. I picked it up and started reading it once. It gives the term 'dry' new meaning [in a literary sense]. :|

History controls everything we do, so there is no point in observing individual actions. Let's examine the individual actions of over 500 characters at great length.

THE END

Maybe one day you and I can ride one of those tandem bikes, like so

And we can read aloud to each other alternating chapters from War and Peace. It will be just like that one movie about unlikely romances.

So you can say you've read it. Thank Christ (not really, I just like to blaspheme) I now have so I don't have to at some point in the future :)

If you take all the references to God out of the final chapters he presents quite a valid argument for Scientific Determinism.

The vast sections of the book not dealing with War should probably be subtitled; Courting and Marriage.

I think you're on you're own.

The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2,000,000 copy bestselling inspirational book, The Power of Now

With his bestselling spiritual guide The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle inspired millions of readers to discover the freedom and joy of a life lived "in the now." In A New Earth, Tolle expands on these powerful ideas to show how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world. Tolle describes how our attachment to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and unhappiness, and shows readers how to awaken to a new state of consciousness and follow the path to a truly fulfilling existence.

The Power of Now was a question-and-answer handbook. A New Earth has been written as a traditional narrative, offering anecdotes and philosophies in a way that is accessible to all. Illuminating, enlightening, and uplifting, A New Earth is a profoundly spiritual manifesto for a better way of life—and for building a better world.

You definitely couldn't pay me to read that hippy shit. Even the blurb makes me want to vomit on, and shit myself.

War and Peace is definatly on my "to do" list. I have it sitting on my shelf and boy do I wish it was double spaced text!

My copy had a bookmark with all the main characters listed on it and the family groups they were in on the front, and on the back a list of other principal characters. It made reading it so much easier until I memorised all the characters. Printing off a similar list may help your reading experience if your short term memory sucks as badly as mine (oh thank you booze).

i'm reading old old books i've read many times :(

must. go. to. kinokinya. or however it's spelled.

Got a few on the go at the moment.

The Cyring of Lot 59 by Thomas Pynchon, which is very surreal.

The Book of Daniel by E. L Doctorow, a historical fiction novel based on the children of American citizens executed for espionage during the start of the Cold War.

The Golden Age by John C Wright, only a few pages in but seems like very trippy sci fi.

The War of the Worlds by H. G Wells, the style of writing is a bit dry for me by I will perserve with it.

Serves me right for taking two Lit subjects this semester, still got a mountain of books to read for them!

I'm reading a book of Oscar Wilde plays at the moment that was due back at the library yesterday. Currently on the last act of The importance of being Earnest. Don't want to give it back :p

Im currently reading :

A Heartbreaking work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers. It looks pretty kooky, but my housemate who is doing her masters in publishing and editing swears by it and has the added bonus of working at penguin so it means we get 40% off any books we want, or wish to have. Ill post a review once Im done !!!
