What are you munching on? v. the cheese n' fish cake crew

Oven chips are far superior to home made deep fat fried chips IMO.

Just munched a bit of Tomato, Parmesan and Pancetta pasta bake. Was quite tasty but not convinced at all by those jar sauce pasta bakes. Pasta always comes out way too overcooked or still crunchy - often both at the same time. Coat cooked pasta in sauce then under the grill to melt added cheese or whatever is definitely the way to go.

PS: Chips can be good baked or (double) fried but has to be a good oven chip to compete. Badly made fried chips are rank though.

PPS: Toast + Peanut Butter + Butter = <3 meaning most of y'all are as wrong as Spadey on that one :p

Aye fried chips pretty much always seems to come badly made when I've had them, awful things.

Just had a really quite bad potato and leek cheese bake, my old dear added carrots and parsnip to it, the latter giving it a really funny after taste and the former just not working very well. The cheese just ended up wattery and not very saucy like but with too much butter in it. The potato and leek soup that's also been made looks and tastes much better.

Nice. Had one of those earlier. Six packs of various Muller Corners are all on offer at the moment so been enjoying them recently. Never think to buy yogurts usually but very handy snackstuffs they are. I think some even border on being healthy 8o

I love these threads gives me ideas, and alternatives to how I like to do things
for me tonight though it was some toast with ling with chopped olives covered in bire and melted under the grill and it was lovely.
someone said something about butter and peanut butter on the same slice, but most people I know put butter then jam on a slice of bread must be rich bastards lol

Not munching this now (although just had a less interesting variation as I was starving) but yesterday I had gnocchi with field mushrooms fried in butter with garlic with parsley, and lashings of black pepper. Sprinkling of cheese too, but that's just cos I'm a cheese addict. The Mr added chilli sauce to his, as always.. ;)

Had made a similar-ish thing before just just kind of made this one up as I went along, and it was gorgeous! I think gnocchi are best without a sauce, they just go soggy.. and mushrooms fried in butter (well, olive spread) = <3

We've got an amazing veg shop nearby that does class II veg super cheap (as if you can tell the difference between class I and II anyway..) It's luck of the draw what they have in each day, but we got a humungous bag of delicious field mushrooms for 99p :) and that's on the expensive side for the shop! Really big bag of oyster mushrooms for less than a quid was the best bargain I think, they often have quite unusual stuff.. had white aubergines a while back. And more tomatoes than I could possibly eat for 30p, that was a good day :)

Aw boo. Cover in chilli sauce / pepper / cheese?

At least you have benzos, I'd swap a home-cooked meal for some right now!

Effie: Have always had a hankering after gnocchi but yet to cross paths with 'em (or indeed be arsed to make 'em). They seem to be my kinda thang though :)

Woke up late today so is now about lunchtime. Decisions: quick dash to the shop or leave it and attack the storecupboard... Cutting it fine for the shop... but they do sell booze there.

I'm stuffed after a lovely Spaghetti dinner with some tiger bread and green Olives washed down with a pint of cider. Yummy.

Vegan fish finger sandwich. I'm no longer veggie, but sometimes still buy the Redwood 'fish fingers' anyway.

Bad choice of dinner then really, Spadey :D

Had tuna madras with chick peas and rice. Was rather tasty - those Loyd Grossman sauces are not bad at all. Especially when on offer for a quid :)

TG: What exactly is in a vegan fish finger? And does it taste fishy? Fish fingers are the biznizz but would be wary of a vegan one, I think.

^They're not bad. Definitely fishy. I can't be arsed to venture upstairs to inspect the packet, but suspect they're mostly made up of soy and the like. 'Real' fish fingers are a lot cheaper I guess, but since I popped into Holland & Barrett for various things the other day, I couldn't resist picking up a few veggie things whilst I was at it.

made my friends a massive caserole with some spare cans of guiness none of them were going to drink.

^^ It would be the fishiness in the absence of fish that would raise an eyebrow with me, TG. Not much that isn't fishy tastes fishy that I can think of. If they can make veggie fishy then they should make those Fish & Chip biccycrispthings I'm quite fond of taste fishy with the same process. That would be nice. And fishy/not fishy.

Dinner now settled so treating meself to an Apple & Sultana cakebar thingy dunked in coffee. Yum <3

PS: Guinness is great for casseroles and the like, Wibz. Although a slightly heinous crime to use it for that purpose unless it's the horrid fizzy crap, I'd say.

EDIT: I take that yum back. Not a yummy cakebar thingy at all. One of those Go Ahead low calorie ones (only bought cos reduced to pennies) and it tastes of mouldy cardboard.

I have an awesome recipe for bean and beer casserole somewhere. :D

Those fish and chip crisps things are awesome. I used to like scampi and lemon Nik-Nak's too but they kinda disappeared. :(
