What are you munching on? v. gimmie toblerone n' beetroot

Get that £37 spent on good food and booze..

Only managed a railway baguette tonight, so still got 90% of my allowance left for the rest of Sunday. I'm wondering whether 10 tins of Stella from the buffet will raise eyebrows in the finance dept.

Made a turkey, bacon and broad bean salad for dinner - was lush. Veg + salad my own grown.

Tried my hand at baking a tea loaf for the man, it smells nice and spicy like gingerbread+, but all the fruit and nuts sunk to the bottom half.

That sounds alright kate, was eating turkey the other day for the first time since Xmas probably, never had it any other time. I just ate a twix.

I've got a nearly 3lb fillet from one side of an 8lb bass I caught yesterday...... %)

Got a load of broad beans from the allotment, last of the broads, last few peas too, and some runners....

Making a tagliatelle pesto pasta thing with the broad beans, peas, and some haricots from the biggest runners....

And plonking a fucking massive piece of griddled bass on top.

t'rill.

I miss my trips to Chesil Beach mate . My mate ( the one i said looked a bit like ya ) R.IP was my fishing partner n he was also a very proficient gardner & road kill expert . In the winter we would pick up a couple of deer , nuff rabbits & various other "Game" .

Do you ever fish Chesil ? I used to luv it , we would get their for about 5/6 am & go to the car parks n do the bins . Found loads of tackle , weights fuk rods even !!.
Then fish it a good 6 hrs at least rain or shine . First time i got a few whiting & dogfish . Put that with the the RoadKill n i was hooked :)

Had a chicken curry tonight, the sauce was one of those powdered packet things but chucked it in the slow cooker with the meat, some onions and peppers early this morning and cooked it all day and it turned out pretty tasty.

just ate a massive pizza. I seem to have mastered the dough now, can quite quickly get it round and even, although I'm using a rolling pin, not throwing it in the air.

Had me son and two of his mates in the kitchen all afternoon making fish fingers from a giant side of ling, got a nice little production line going, me cutting the fish, one of the kids flouring, another egging, and another one doing the breadcrumbs...

Then we made a massive bowl of tartare sauce (used ready made mayonnaise though)

Sent them off with fishfingers and sauce, and we all gonna be eating fishfingers chips peas and tartare sauce tonight... :D

Nice one Monkey, get them taught how to cook early. Soon you'll be able to get them doing it themselves whilst you sit with the feet up drinking a beer.

I went out for lunch today, parma ham and mozzarella toasted baguette. Place was a bit pricey though, it's just a wee ice cream and coffee shop and they wanted £10 for a burger and chips or a plate of pasta, my sandwich was a fiver. For dinner I'll either eat the out of date steak and gravy pie I bought yesterday or chuck a pizza on.

Ha, it's one of the things I'm most grateful to my parents for, inrstilling a love of food and cooking in me...got me a fair bit of fanny when I was younger tbh =D

My son can use a filleting knife pretty well, I've always let him use my (well sharpened) proper knives, my wife used to wince, but he's never had a bad cut off one, and it's much easier to work safely with a sharp knife than a shit one.

He's always cooked with me, and doesn't mind pulling the guts out of big fucking fish....Can make a reasonable attempt at filleting most fish, he cooks better than a lot of adults I know...but, he needs someone guiding him along still, I couldn't just slap a fat cod on the table and have it filleted, skinned, made into fish fingers, fish pie etc and have the kitchen cleared without having to supervise him, useless little bastard ;)

I couldn't and wouldn't gut a fish (they are foul smelling / tasting and disgusting creatures) so fair play to your kid. I didn't learn to cook until I went to uni, previous to that if I had to cook for myself I just chucked something in the oven or microwave. First thing I made was pasta, thought I was the business. :D

Is your boy not about 6 Mr Monkey? That's pretty impressive.

My mum was a cook, back in those days women weren't allowed to be chefs. We never had tins or packets at home, everything was cooked from scratch (and home grown) and I was taught early, can remember having to stand on a chair to help bake. I rebelled at one point in my teen years and ate Angel Delight. Twas rank...have cooked proper ever since.

Made a madras kofta curry with mushroom & pea rice - it was lush.

He is 6...I always let him prod and poke the fish, and help making fish fingers and stuff, but I never put a proper filleting knife or chefs knife in his hand till he was 3.

Sadly, he'll grow up like me, great at food/cooking, but totally inept and hopeless at DIY/decorating/mechanics, all that proper manly stuff :(

edit>>>>he was 2 here, nearly 3, "helping"

Is that a pike? It's huge! MailMarmoset is going to have impressive skills.

PS he looks like a handsome wee bugger, are you sure he's yours?

PPS the humanoid, not the fish. But same question applies.
