Home-baked pizza garlic bread smothered in a garlic olive oil, with little mounds of hour-long cooked caramelised onions in a balsamic glaze and a here and there drizzle of garlic-infused chili oil, lots of sea salt, black pepper, oregano and the merest shaving of cheddar. I'm impressed meself, for a first attempt it was bloody good. The base was super thin and crispy, puffed at the edges, like proper pizza. Too thin actually, was a nightmare getting it from the worktop to the baking sheet, and it was a bit wafer thin and burnt in parts. I'm not complaining mind.

The one good thing about having to learn how to feed myself on less money is the stuff I'm doing for myself with dry goods like that. Chapatis and dal, focaccia, soda bread for breakfast, pasta and gnocchi, now pizzas. Once you've stocked your larder up with a few different flours you'll never go hungry again. Ironically I'm eating much better than I was before, I've put over half a stone on! :) Best bit is for the bit of work that went into it I've got a bag of dough will keep in the fridge enough for three more out of it. So easy and it costs buttons.

Come cook for me <3

Just had a white chocolate and orange cookie from Sainos. Shockingly nice. Usually get the oatmeal and raisin ones but these were a quid at the till so grabbed a pack. Even the rabbit is after em, ha.

Jesus even your sandwiches are posh as fook 8(

It was a bit of a fridge cleaner to be honest. Used up everything that was starting to look a bit iffy - that and when served with some Iceland chips took only half an hour :D.

Making a minty couscous salad, some slaw and not sure what to serve with it yet. No doubt a photo will follow :D

As expected :D

Decided just to have the salad n slaw - (I hate the photo, the colors and focus are both off but still get the jist). The black splodge thing at the back is a Tamarind sauce thing.

sirloin steak in a pepper sauce with fried mushrooms and onions, boiled new potatoes and salad.

Pretty good.

red wine to wash it down.

well done knock, I remember you expressing a preference for fillet steak a while ago, sirloin is soooo much better...was it well marbled and a nice thick strip of fat on it?

Proper pizza this evening Snolly if that'll do you? Would have been rude not to use the dough from the fridge, wouldn't it? So, this evening's toppings were: tomato, garlic and herb sauce; the odd little mound of caramelised onion here and there again, that worked nicely last night; pools of torn up ( NOT grated, that ruins it! ) mozarella; Italian salamis; black olives and . . . anchovies, lots of the scrummy little fish heads. I'm amazing even myself lately, I really am. We're talking srs bsns pizza here, it was blooody good!

Ha, for a very quick dinner I use Pataks Pasanda sauce, extremely mild, but add a few sliced green chillies for heat.

i dunno what it is about those creamy mild sauces that makes them taste so good hotted up.

They look at me weird in an indian restaurant if I ask for a Pasanda with green chillies in.

Ya. Pasanda is nice too but very mild. The mild, creamy ones tend to be good with fish, I find. I also like to heat up the creamy-type curries usually though. The korma was Patak's but using the paste rather than a jar. Wish they'd stock a wider range of pastes at the Co-Op here cos they're much more economical than jars and generally taste better. There's only four types to choose from though :(

yeah the range of pastes is a bit shit here too, i think there are only 3, korma, madras, and vindaloo.

Yeah, you're right, i make a lot of fishy/shellfishy curries, so Pasanda is perfect, but I still need plenty of spiky hot green chilli chopped in last minute, so it still almost has its crunch intact.

EDIT>>>>think you're right, 4 varieties here, rogan josh too.

EDIT>>>>ate early today as me missis had the afternoon off work. Hungry again now so just cooking a kilo of cockles, will have them with white pepper, sweet smoked paprika, vinegar, and some bread.

Yes it was marbled and there was plenty of fat. And I ate the fat, and it was tasty, and I have to eat my hat and say I prefer it to the fillet.

Was still from a packet though, not made it to the local butchers yet but I will do. In fact I'm looking forward to it!

Just ate some simple pasta in olive oil with pepper and parmesan followed by crème brûllée. Crème brûllée is rapidly becoming my desert of choice, I could eat it all day, every day. I need to work out how to make it myself.

Speaking of puds, just munched sticky toffee pudding with custard. Custard was slightly banana-ey cos I've got no sugar to sweeten the custard so used milkshake powder. Was tasty. Don't eat puds often but bought some custard powder on a whim cos it was on offer and really cheap a while back. Sticky toffee pudding on offer now which made a perfect excuse to crack open the custard. Think I might make a crumble or two to use up some of the tinned fruit I've had lurking in the back of the cupboard for ages next time I'm feeling custardy.

I have an issue with chocolate digestive biscuits that I feel should be taken up with trading standards. On the pack they claim 'a thick layer of smooth milk chocolate'. Thick? No. A Rocky bar can make this claim, chocolate digestives cannot.

Also had a packet of genuine Walkers cheese and onion crisps today and the colour of the pack is now a slightly darker shade of blue than it was and says on the pack 'unmistakably cheese and onion with cheese from Somerset' on the pack. I swear they put less crisps in the bag every time I have one. What is the world coming too?

Also...

...sticky toffee pudding with custard.

...yummy.
