Steak pie, mash 'n' gravy. Bit too much of due to having bought two pies cos they were so cheap. Half a family size Pukka was perhaps a tad ambitious cos I'm bloated as a month-old whale corpse.

Sounds lovely though - Don't know why but I thought of those pies that came in tins - cut the lid off and bake ? Tasty as and probably had less horse in them than anything on the selves today. I have been struggling today to make my own Teriyake sauce - chucked a few loads but finally nailed it :). Got wings marinading in the fridge for tomorrow :)

Not the tinned ones, Bear (although am quite partial to those too). One of these...

The ones you used to only be able to get in chippies. Make a decent pie do Pukka. No idea if it was horse but if it was it was tasty 'n' tender horse <3

Teriyaki sounds great. Not so big on wings though. Never seen the point of 'em. All bone and no meat. Although did see a handy instructional vid on PooToob demonstrating how to remove the bone in one leaving just meat which was rather snazzy.

I had pasta with broccoli and anchovy sauce. The sauce is made by heating anchovies and garlic until they basically melt and then putting it on the broccoli. Recipe my mom taught me ages ago

Lollipop wings - nah screw that I just make/cook an extra pack :D. Was cooking to take to a party so looking for something that looked fancy, could be done in bulk but cost nowt :D. 36 wings for a few quid - stew them tonight, then tomorrow cook with some green peppers and top with some spring onions, red chilly and some sesame seeds - sit them on a bed of iceberg - job done (no doubt a photo will follow).

I love this sauce, I add capers and olives and its great with Bavette :)

Ah! Party food is another matter, Bear. Thought you meant for dinner which seemed a bit of a faff. Definitely more of a nibble than a meal. Sounds tasty.

It is -I did a dry run the other night but topped up with Sushi etc for our dinner (still a faff on). Didn't really fancy messing about tomorrow actually cooking so was looking for an easy option (for home cooked).

A massive Tortilla the size of a very wide cake and nearly as thick, marinated turkey breasts (chilli and lemon) griddled, cous cous with a load of little beans and berries in, humous (bought from the Co-Op :( ) , fucking lovely it was too. Oh and a fuckload of chopped flatleaf parsley over the whole thing...

Takeaway kebab tomorrow night, Friday tradition.

EDIT>>>>chicken wings are often the very best part of a chicken, dirt cheap to get a massive bag of wings off your butcher usually too, perfect balance of crispy sticky skin, fattiness, and moist meat....take a marinate or a glaze well, and cook fast.

Stop eating humous and check my dog food pictures - 'Foul' is the new 'Humous' all the hip hop and happening kids are eating it :D

Your Tortilla meal sounds great though :) Whats even better is the same meal has about 5 names depending on the way you fold your bread.

Ah no, Spanish Tortilla, big thick potato and onion omelette. Weighs a ton. Goes to school for me son's packed lunch for a couple of days too...

Hmm, I hadn't really considered them. If I'm going to the chippie it'll always be cod and chips, if I'm doing fishfingers at home they'll be naked bar their breadcrumbs. What's yours, and what are the pros and cons? And quick, before MM rouses himself from ketatonia and slates my choice of supper.

I had a fishfinger sandwich with rocket and tartare sauce, was good.

That sounds good, fish fingers are one of the things me and me son enjoy making the most.

Just fillet the loins off small whiting, leave all the belly meat for fish pies, or cats i the whiting are smaller than 12 oz each or so. Cut into strips, flour, egg, breadcrumbs (homemade), shallow fry 2 mins either side.

Tartare sauce chop loads of parsley, gherkin and capers, finely chop a couple of hard boiled eggs, bt of black pepper, squeeze a bt of lemon on, mix well, add a few tablespoons of mayo (make it if you can be arsed, I use Helmans), mix again...fucking lovely, you can eat mounds of it too.

Fish fingers and branston pickle sarnies :)

get to fuck.

Jan. Out of interest, what's your position on battered fish fingers?

I'm watching Question Time atm, so not really here, but ^^ fucking LOL. Best question fielded, evah! ...

and a fine answer, and lovely additional further musings from Mister Crow as well.

Ace stuffs <3

Was talking of these actually...

Was initially deeply suspicious. Can't mess with the classics like that. Or so I thought. Will never fully replace the breadcrumb variety but are bloody good in their own right. Don't dry out as easy as breaded ones so always nice 'n' juicy. Make a damn fine sarnie too. Personally I'm rather fond of 'em with tomato (and cheese if feeling decadent) in one of those half-baked roll thingies - fresh and hot from the oven (after doing my half of the baking - just to be clear). Fingers need to be ovened too when battered for me. Are okay grilled but nowhere near as good as baked. Wouldn't fry 'em meself but don't fry much of anything really. Well worth a sample for the fishfinger lover. Usually on offer for 99p too which is what drew me in. Great cheap lunch/supper <3

Don't think I've ever had an expensive fishfinger. Suppose the Cap'n's are the only ones that ain't cheap - they seem to be way more expensive than any others I've seen. Don't think they're owt special meself. Actually prefer Young's - breaded or battered. Economy fishfingers are properly shit though.
