Capella - You Got To Let The Muisc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Dt8MXvYS7Y

Anyone listening to Dave Pearce's Dance Years on BBC Radio 2 last night?

You seem to like your cheesy but good dance music (so do i) i once went into hmv to buy a compilation of these kind of tracks. Fuckin snobby till person openly sneered at my 'uncool' choice. Fuck him, i am proud to like all sorts of music, some considered 'cool or hip' some totally not. I dont belive in 'guilty pleasures' or whatver the expression is. I just know what I like, and dont need anyone to tell me whether its cool to like it or not.

Glad i havent given a shit since i was about 17 years old whether the likes of NME and its sixth form readership considered a band cool or not. What a wanker i was from 15-17 only buying stuff the nme approved of, or stuff that john peel played. (Though there was some overlap here, Peel was always proud of his 'eclectic tastes' and considered 'people who regard Madonna as the enemy' quite ridiculous. Totally agreed, i think that's when i grew up, in that one sense at least, and would put Madonna tracks (like a prayer - how fuckin great a track was that) on the juke box in hipster or rocker pubs with pride, perversly loving all the 'looks', and embarrasment of my friends, that i would get for doing that.

Haha, yes.

Granted there's no real depth my choice, but it's definitely got some substance.
I swear you can hear the ecstasy in it.

Music's funny, and v personal if you think about it.

So much psychology involved and it takes a certain type of genius to persistently produce mass hits.

One thing I notice about 'the greats' such as queen, the beatles, led zepplin, pink floyd, elo and such is they all have orchestral/string arrangements.

I wonder who the next big superstar rock group will be?

Yes i think thats true. Sometimes it can ruin a great track though IMO. I think David Gray's 2009 Album Draw The Line is the best example of this.

IMO, Some of the songs are absolutely stunning, but totally spoilt by the OTT use of extremely annoying slushy strings. It would have been so much better without them. Though i suppose it wouldnt have sold quite so well if he had kept the songs more raw.

Especially - 04-david_gray-jackdaw - GET THOSE FUCKIN VIOLINS OFF lol

Thank God he left them off "Kathleen" !!

05-david_gray-kathleen (Love this song so much, one of my all time faves. Very 'stirring' and 'haunting' song IMO, i think it's the female backing vocals that add that extra 'magic' to it)

I've just broke down weeping after listening to this again. Dont know wtf is wrong with me. LOL.

Stereophonics - Heart of Gold.

Brilliant cover version. I think it's better than Neil Young's orignal version. (Young's written some great songs, not keen on his 'weak' or 'weird' style of signing though)

How's this for an unlikely cover version ? :

Manic Street Preachers (or more correctly, just James Dean Bradfield with an acoustic guitar and his amazing voice) - Last Christmas
