Saw him at the Royal Albert Hall with his wifey and Thurston Moore.
Amazing gig. Wish I could see his guitar orchestra though.

I'm still on an Ella Fitzgerald tip.
At Last

Not sure why the video has pics that aren't Ella though...

The Beach Boys - California Girls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0av63J-OuQ

The music for the song came from Brian Wilson's first LSD experience. In the Beautiful Dreamer documentary, Wilson said that shortly after taking LSD, he ran up to a bedroom and hid under a pillow, shouting "I'm afraid of my mom, I'm afraid of my dad."

Some time later he left the room and went to a piano. He started playing in the bass the B-F#-G# pattern over and over, and then added in the right hand after a few minutes a B chord, moving to an A chord.

Within a half hour, he had come up with the "well east-coast girls are hip, I really dig the styles they wear" part of the song. The next day, he and Mike Love supposedly finished off the remainder of the song.

Juts heard this guys brother being interviewed and it reminded me when I not only saw him play live but met him after the show, as a friend of mine's dad managed the venue, I was only about 13 or 14 but I remember him being such a nice bloke. The performance with full brass section the lot was flawless, he could really perform.

Edwin Starr RIP

Edwin Starr - WAR

Edwin Starr - SOS

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Girl in the Bottom of My Glass

"I can't raise my glass, without seeing her ass
Through it's telescopic bottom
If you wanna know what agony is
Ask the girl at the bottom of my glass
Well love'll come a-knockin' with my toolbag and my stockin'
Challeng-challengin' her knickers

Have never found a girl at the bottom of me glass. Often find soggy fag butts though... I wonder if that has deeper meaning?

Fuck it:

Neil Young - Pocahontas

Remains one of the loveliest things I ever heard.

One of me fave Neil Young songs is that, Sam :)

Not listened to Neil Young for ages. But oddly enough did remind meself I should do a coupla days back. Cosmic coincidence. Possibly.

that's on the tribute to the bridge album (which i also used to have on vinyl - white with a cover slip) but was a casualty loss from my split from my first ex bf

I have it on MP3 if you can't find a copy. I have Neil Young's complete discog too. I've got two packages to send off, hopefully by Wednesday, so let me know if you need a copy and I can lob you one via snail mail or whatever since I'll be at the PO

my fave from the album
Victoria Williams - Don't Let It Bring You Down

That makes you the only other person I know of who's aware of the genius of that album it seems, Marmz. Proper hardcore Neil Young fans tend to shudder at the thought of an entire album of covers by bands they've never heard of (and, to be fair, I'd never heard of several of 'em before or since) and the grunge kiddies who should've been prime audience were apparently too apathetic to bother to buy it. Their loss.

Torrent is somewhat stoppystarty... more stoppy than starty really. Which only affirms by above suspicions. So may just take you up on that there kindly offer. Complete Neil Young discog, you say? Blimey. That would be a treat and a half. Have only ever had bits and pieces really - from back when I stuck strictly to vinyl... long since sold for scag. Would be a musical boon and no mistake, missus :)

Excellent choice of tune too - is also one of me faves off that album. In fact I <3 most of 'em. With the possible esception of Soul Asylum. Psychic TV's cover was also surprisingly disappointing. Nice... but not really Psychic TV enough, if you see wot I mean...

Coupla faves... Dinosaur, Jr - Lotta Love, Sonic Youth - Computer Age, Flaming Lips - After the Goldrush. And, cos it's possibly (although far from definitely) my fave Neil Young track covered by one of me fave fellas - Thom Yorke - After the Goldrush.

<3
