What Are Tetrahydroisoquinolines?

Some isoquionlines are in cacti. I believe Alexander Shulgin has a book titled Simple Plant Isoquinolines, though i haven't read it and don't know how many are active, and of the active ones, if any are useful.

IIRC tetrahydroisoquinoline is part of the structure of some muscle relaxers.

EDIT: Some are also toxic, i wouldn't go ingesting any on a whim as I know next to nothing about them

I think they are essentially a potentially mind manfesting agent that is not an alkaloid, as are phens and tryptamines.

There is not a razor sharp line drawn for the alkaloid category but most if not all use the presence
of nitrogen as an essential criterium. Both tetrahydroisoquinolines and isoquinolines have at least the one.

Peyophorine is such a THIQ found in cacti, well I guess at least peyote ;) The 2nd is anhalotine, 3rd peyoglutam 4th mescalotam, all also in peyote

You can see the methoxy and methylenedioxy moieties dangling on there having fun.
