since around the time of feb. 1st i have been cutting my calories and working out a lot. i used to eat fast food all the time and a bunch of other shit that no one is supposed to eat. i cut all that out and now i'm eating veggies and other healthy foods. i exercise at least 4 days a week for almost an hour.

i have lost 5 pounds, but no matter what i do, i can't seem to lose anymore. i have noticed that i have lost some weight in my waist. i'm not looking for instant results, but i am wondering if i'm ever going to lose any more weight. i'm becoming frustrated.

i appreciate all comments, but do not suggest the atkins diet, b/c that diet would not work for me since i don't eat much meat or cheese.

forget diets, not eating or eating much less is the only thing that is guaranteed to work :)

You've not been dieting for that long really and these things do take time unfortunately. You are exercising quite a bit (good on you!) so its quite likely you are building up muscle which is more dense than fat so your weight loss won't show up on scales. You will most likely start to notice it when your clothes become more loose and you probably already feel great.

I've lost a fair bit of weight by doing just what you are doing - not eating so much junk food, eating less and exercising. It took a while, a few months I guess, but it made me feel good so I continued (plus I'm kind of vain;)).

And I would never advocate the Atkins diet. Just normal healthy food (food pyramid) mostly (you gotta have chocolate etc sometimes!), and a high range of foods to keep you healthy and interested. Another important thing is to eat smaller, more frequent meals as opposed to big huge ones as this increases your metabolism and stops you feeling hungry. Try to always eat breakfast too.

thanks for the advice, but i would never do that.

sunflower, i know that i'm probably gaining muscle so i'm not seeing a drastic drop in pounds, but i plan on losing 30 or 40 pounds, so it's not like i'm just trying to lose a little weight, so i def. should see something drop off sometime soon. i know i'm not going to gain 30 pounds of muscle.

^^ I understand believe me! I used to get so frustrated because it seemed like I'd been dieting forever and nothing was happening. After a while I pretty much tried to forget about it and not weigh myself too much.

You're doing all the appropriate things for weight loss and fitness so you will get there.

its good to cut out ur carbs (i'm no guru but its what i've picked up off Sllip...he might show up here and post too) and eat as many fruit, vegetables and lean meats.
why?? i think its cos theyre "heavy" if u know what i mean. and they take too long to burn i think.

exercise is great, make sure ur doing a heap of cardio ( no matter how boring) cos thats whats gonna make you shift the weight. i'm talkin 40 mins every session.
free weights and the machines are there for muscle building, and in that case ur gonna have to add a lot of protien to ur diet, like those special drinks. but not too much in one go cos i think ur body can only absorb a certain amount of protien at once.

meh, i hope i've helped...if i'm wrong about anything which i dont think i am, i'll come back and correct it.

good luck!

And the Atkins Diet blows balls.

No offense to anybody on the diet, but I absolutely LOATHE this new low carb trend. It's ridiculous the amount of advertising I see everyday for low carb crap. From Bacardi to those stupid wraps at Subway, it's everywhere!

Good on you for trying to lose weight the proper way (working out). %)

I really can't add anything since I was blessed with a super quick metabolism, I just wanted to comment on the Atkins thingy. =D

Good luck.

ahoy.. i have gone from 190 to 165lb since feb.. basically stick to lighter eating, teaching myself not to stuff myself at every meal

try eating small light things throughout the day, so you are constantly digesting, thus your metabolism is running faster and you are burning more shiz

i have not been exercising, just been doing situps and pushups daily, but i still am losing the weight.. weird,

I've found by eating less and resorting to fruit for snacks has made a huge difference for me - added to that i have upped the amount of cardio and general excercise i have done and i really feel and notice the difference! I try to do the classes at the gym as i seem to work harder and longer in them.. go rpm, pump and the humble treadmill!!

just ask the dudes at ur gym to do u up a program and tell them u want to burn fat and tone up.this way u wont bulk on that much muscle. And wat ozbreaker said gym classes and the treadmill a good one.

with your workout routine... cardio is definitely the way to go. and if youre lifting weights, you want to be doing more reps of less weight to burn fat... less reps at more weight will bulk you up.

low weight/high reps isnt gonna do much

your better off doing something like yoga or pilates (its not just for girls) which will tone you up and make you a lot leaner.

I have to second the water thing... that whole idea about drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day, it really works. The way it works is that if you drink that much water every day, you will be very well hydrated and your body will get used to having that constant flow of water,... therefor your body will not retain any fluid... to top that off, your body will start to get rid of the extra fluid that has been retained... so not only do you stop fluid retension, you get the ball rolling on getting rid of ALL retained fluid.

i like those atkins wraps at subway...they kinda good. but other than that, it is pretty damn ridiculous at how much everyone advertises about that shit. when i'm tryin to get drunk, the last thing i'm thinkin of is how many carbs are in the damn drink....all that matters is the alcohol.

i suggest you dont use the scale anymore. make your mirror your scale. scales are the devil my friend, just look in the mirror and decide whether or not you look better.

^ LOL @ your screen-name! :D

djwhirlpool, we must be on a wavelength... I started my diet on February 1st too. I've lost 2.5kg (I think that's just slightly more than 5 pounds.... anybody? anybody?) - and I'm actually quite happy with that.

My theory is as long as the weight's going down, it's going in the right direction. :) After all, it didn't jump on our thighs and buttocks overnight, it crept on gradually; so therefore the only way to lose it (safely) is gradually.

I'm giving it a year to lose 12kg. Why not? What's the rush. I have a life to live in the meantime.
You're doing fine.

I also find when I exercise, for some strange reason, weight loss stops for a while. It can be anywhere between 2 weeks and a month, when I stop losing and maybe even GAIN a little. I've just come to accept that. So what I do is I don't start exercising until a few months into my diet, because it makes me depressed not to lose in the early stages. I do it after I've already had a bit of success, and just accept that it's going to make me plateau for a while. That's just me.

But invariably, when the plateau does end, it's the exercise which keeps the weight rolling off. Stick in there.

Oh - and also, try to go FASTER rather than LONGER. If your exertion level is on a scale of 0-10, 10 being your absolute limit, you should be working at a level 7-8 for at least 20 minutes. Quick and intense. That's what raises your metabolism and "kick starts" things.

Good luck :) :) :)
