What actually is methadone?

Familiar with hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine; (brands) somas, flexiril, tramadol, etc. But I've absolutely no clue what methadone is. How does it relate to the substances listed? Is it of any recreational value or solely medicinal purposes? If one was accustomed to the effects of hydrocodone and occasionally oxycodone, would methadone provide any euphoric or admirable results? Needing to be educated on this substance.

Well to cut it to u . Its synthetic heroin very POTENT.. but a lot healthier then opiates its a synthetic.. Helps opiate withdrawal and is usually given to u at a clinic for heroin . opiate addicts.. Pills etc.. It has a feeling of opiate . but after u have been on it for a while it goes away and all it really does is stop ur withdrawls .. Makes u feel normal ..so on . but at high doses it can mess u up . but never mix with alcohol or benzos extremely dangerous . why ; have u been prescribed ? Just wondering

It feels like those substances but extremely stronger ..and not really much of a drug to get high on . because like I said after months it really just takes away the craving and u have to keep taking more and its extremely hard to Get off. But its a pretty good drug .if u have never had it start with 15-30mg

Methadone is the generic name of the chemical itself there are brands of methadone out there such as dolophine and methadose.
Methadone hydrochloride is chemically described as
6-(dimethylamino)-4,4- diphenyl-3-hepatanone hydrochloride.
The hydrochloride salt form of methadone is what's commonly used and is mainly used in the treatment of opioid/opiate addiction. It is not quite synthetic heroin per say but the poster above is right in saying the effects are quite similar. Because it is an acyclic analog of morphine or heroin, methadone acts on the same opioid receptors as these drugs, therefore it has many of the same effects. Methadone was created in Germany in 1937 because opium trade was falling through due to the war so people in pain needed a reliable source of opiates. Methadone is a synthetic drug that could be made with readily available ingredients solving Germany's opium shortage problem.

Germany stopped using it when soldiers reported side effects such as lethargy and 'an unwillingness to go to battle" to quote Germany.
Methadone is also used in managing severe chronic pain and Is quite effective with a long duration of action, strong analgesic effect, and very low cost. It seems to work very well with nerve pain and can be considered one of the strongest opioid type drug available for pain. When other opioids fail, chronic pain patients can usually find relief with methadone.

If you have only done weaker opiates such as hydrocodone and oxycodone then be very careful with methadone. It doesn't carry quite the same euphoria as other opiates even in high doses but it doesn't mean it isn't working so don't keep taking more to achieve the same "high'' you are used to or you may have breathing problems. Start with 5-10 mgs of methadone then wait 3 hours see how it effects you then take more if desired. Methadone takes a long time to peak so don't keep popping them every half hour thinking its not working because it can take 3 hours to fully peak. In general the conversion would be for every 3mg of methadone the equivalent dosage of oxycodone would be 5mg.

Because of its long half life and duration of action methadone is great for stabilising heroin addicts as a "matinence" medication. Instead of a heroin addict dosing 4-6 times a day they can usually get by with one dose a day when on legally prescribed methadone and it keeps them from having to resort to crime to get their fix therefore taking the strain off our prison system, lowering crime rate, etc.
It also makes an opiate taper alot easier due to its long half life since short acting opiates are so hard to taper down due to the amount of times redosing is required. Many heroin addicts switch to methadone to either stay on indefinitely or to taper down over the course of a couple months or more. Its usually given out to them one dose a day so they have to go to a clinic and dose in front of a pharmacist each morning to avoid misuse of the methadone.

Not to be an ass but 30mg of done is a lot if you don't have a tolerance, like puking all night type of a lot. start with 10 mg at the most and wait at least 3 hrs if you feel the need to re dose because it takes a long time before it kicks in. It is not synthetic heroin, far from it, h is short acting and done is long lasting that's why its used for maintenance. Just because its a synthetic does not make it any healthier

RESEARCH. Fucking do it before you start spouting gibberish that can potentially harm somebody esp with a potent opiod like mdone

Thanks, you really addressed every specific one of my concerns in this response. I believe I can comparatively assess methadone now. Hydro and Oxy are the strongest opiates the concerned individual has experience with. Although that is roughly 40-60(tops) mgs of hydro (when available) and around 30 of Oxy, daily. (When I say "daily," it only refers to when one has stock to address that "desire." Not on a dependent level.)
Thanks again for all the info.

Good looking out. The max opiates taken previously would be around 60 mgs of hydro in a day and maybe 30 or 40 mgs of oxy.

The reason they start you at 30 is bc everyone getting on done has some type of tolerance. I figured this was common knowledge but guess not lol

So were your doses at one time or spread out...only asking bc you said in a day...makes it sound like multiple doses...also when u do take the done do give it at least a couple hours before u redose bc it really can take a while even when you IV it(pointless BTW) also be aware it doesn't cause much euphoria but makes up for what it lacks in euphoria with its added sedation & that isn't good. Many ppl die chasing the euphoria that done just can't provide if they're used to many normal opiate/kids and the sedation catches up to them and they stop breathing

The hydro doses were almost always spread out throughout the day. Just as a maintenance medication is prescribed, as the substances attracted this individual's interest due to chronic migraines. (But justification doesn't really serve much purpose, now.) Eventually, with or without the headaches, hydro got popped orally every couple hours during the day. One 10mg at a time, more so to enhance reality, rather than pulling one from it; gliding through a busy day as a wonderful stress reliever, much preferable to smoking a cig every half hour to feel decent. The 30 oxy would be in two doses generally. Never had said individual drooling, served more as an upper if anything.
Okay, thanks greatly for the advice. Duly noted.
