It is prescribed to me. It's an antihistamine that somehow helps anxiety which is weird because benadryl and the like don't really help anxiety.
I am prescribed it on a "as needed" basis. I've struggled with benzos in the past so I told my doctor that I didn't want a prescription for those. Hydroxyzine works for me if I have somewhat heightened anxiety. If I'm having an anxiety attack and take it, it'll help somewhat. If I'm having a panic attack it wont do shit. I'm currently prescribed Gabapentin 300mg 3x/day for Generalized Anxiety Disorder and I find that it helps my baseline anxiety and social anxiety, yet I still suffer from frequent anxiety attacks. I have an appointment in a few days, gonna see if the doctor will be willing to bring me up to 600mg 3x/day.
Strangely enough, I also recently started bupropion and I feel like it's helped my anxiety somewhat which is kinda strange. Although I've long suspected that I have ADHD and that my ADHD was a source for a portion of my anxiety. I also have suffered from depression for years and figured that my depression made my anxiety worse, so it makes sense that something that treats both of those ailments would help my anxiety. Amphetamines also help my anxiety. I'm basically never anxious on stimulants unless I way over do it, but if it’s a reasonable dose then it basically cures me of anxiety. I have a psych evaluation with my doctor later this month. It's a 2 hour long appointment. Luckily my General Physician is also trained in psychiatry. He's been great so far and seems to want whats best for his patients. So I'm hoping that I'll be able to get diagnosed with ADHD and get on a proper treatment.
