Stimulants What’s the science behind why stimulant abuse/use causes hyper-vigilance?

I’ve used Vyvanse, Dexedrine, Methamphetamine, and most recently/exclusively Focalin. However it wasn’t until I started filtering and injecting Focalin intramuscularly that I’ve started to get bouts of temporary psychosis/psychotic-symptoms from the massive bioavailability increase versus oral ingestion. Even more frequently than the psychotic issues I also become hyper-vigilant, even when using relatively normal doses of only around 30 MG intramuscularly. Every little noise I hear and thing that even slightly touches my skin makes me jump and react alongside being unable to not hyper focus on them. Even my own breathing and muscle spasms make me on edge. What’s the brain science chemical reason behind this happening? Honestly just curious and was thinking about it. Also on a side note, how the fuck do people inject massive doses of Ritalin/Focalin at once and even throughout the course of a day and not go into full blown psychosis immediately. I’ve always had mild psychosis type issues my whole life with even my normal vyvanse dose for years where at the end of the day I would hear whale sounds and elevator music coming from the white noise type of sound of my AC when trying to sleep. This level of psychosis and psychosis-symptoms have been next level though.

Stims act on Norepinephrine and that's the stuff that is responsible for the Fight-or-flight response. So it makes sense it would make you hypervigilant, your body thinks it's running from a bear.

I think you're absolutely correct. Don't know how I never managed to think of such a simple and logical answer, makes perfect sense. Thanks for the response man, I appreciate it 🙏 👍
