Went from Addicted to Drugs to Addicted to Food

I have the same problem. I quit alcohol and ciggs and all I do is crave candy and soda. Its like the reward chemicals in my brain are pissed and they need something in the absence of the other chemicals.

Drinking a lot of water at once in order to fill up your stomach is terrible advice. While it might work, it could also have some adverse effects on your overall health and might cause you to develop mineral deficiencies.
Filling up on healthy foods at the onset of fast food cravings on the other hand, would be a good solution, even in the long term, but Im sure it wont be easy and require lots of willpower in order to work.

I had a bad sugar habit almost all my life, a habit which I have changed over the last couple of years, but I still crave it big time if Im high and its around, to the point where I can´t keep away, and dont stop eating it until its all gone, leaving me with horrible side effects. I find this sugar shit to be more addicting than weed, MDMA and opiates in my case.
The great thing is, and Im sure this goes for fast food too, is that, the less often you eat it, the less you´ll crave it - with time! A long fucking time, but eventually, things starts to reverse and you start craving healthy foods instead. It might take several years of healthy living but it can be done, Im well on my way and you can do it too.

This is extremely common for recovering alcoholics.

Consider the sugar content of alcohol, and it will become clear why.

Foreverafter, I think the op would probably have the truth than platitudes...

What you said might have come across as demeaning his efforts. Saying it's the lamest excuse in the world isn't necessary... and, it's not the lamest excuse in the world. What about this: "I can't help eating sugary food because of all the commercials!"

1. Lots of water would only be detrimental if you go into hyponatremia which 1 liter (what I suggested) would NEVER do to an adult. Mineral deficiencies from drinking water? I'm pretty sure water does not leach minerals from your body, and I'm not even a doctor. That assumption is plain ridiculous.

2. What other option is there besides eating healthy food? It is a habit. I eat beans, rice, eggs, cheese, oatmeal, tuna, chicken, cow, and vegetables/fruits almost exclusively. I know if I touch soda I'll drink it so I don't, unless I have worked hard for the day and it is a reward. Same with beer, though I'm not perfect. Eating healthy is never easy to begin with, which was the entire point of my initial post. There are no shortcuts! To live a lifestyle you desire takes practice.

It is clear to me that I am going against the flow here, as I have no response to things like "fat is not a choice" and "drinking a lot of water may cause mineral deficiencies." I also recognize that I am probably coming off as an asshole which is also super lame. I'll stop antagonizing the status quo now.

Did I say anything about acute side effects? I said you could develop mineral deficiencies - as in over time.
If the OP was to take your advice, then it wouldn't be a one time thing, but most likely an everyday thing, possible several times a day.
And yes, water does leech minerals when consumed like this. Feel free to research that one if you don't believe me or keep living in the belief that it doesn't, I don't really give a fuck either way, as long as you don't continue to spread that information across the board.

This is a very common occurrence your brain is trying to achieve the same feeling w a different substance mine was endorphins from working out we just have to recognize these problems for what they are exercise discipline in keeping all things in moderation if not abstinence and in my opinion have a spiritual relationship w God in order to achieve balance in our lives
