Has anyone had experience with losing weight while taking Wellbutrin? I have just started taking it and found out that alot of people lose weight, which is strange because I thought anti-depressants make you gain weight, sometimes ALOT of weight!

it is an SNRI, less side effects than an ssri in my personal experience but if can def cause weight loss.

It's a DNRI actually, it does not directly effect serotonin reuptake. Many people lose weight on it because of its stimulant effects which decrease appetite. I've actually gained a little bit of weight since I've been on it, so I guess I'm an odd exception to that.

When I was on wellbutrin it definitely worked for the depression, BUT I lost the ability to have an orgasm. Granted this was with my second husband whom I would not spit on if he were on fire.

it tweaks me out and has played havoc with my appetite, but I have put on a little weight. however, I also quit taking opiates, so that may be a more contributing factor than the welbutrin.

the same way coke decreases your appetite, so does wellbutrin, albeit to a much lesser extent.

What is the normal dosage for Wellbutrin? The doc gave me 150mg a day of Wellbutrin SR. I've seen that some people are on 300mg, and considering that most docs start you out on a lower dosage just to see if you have any interaction with the medicine, I assume that 300mg must be the normal dosage? Anyone know for sure?

Just started it for depression and to help me quit smoking (been 5 days)... so I am assuming I will not lose any weight.

Currently I also take Prozac, but I will be stopping that soon.

I used to take 300 mg/day (150 2x per day). It sped me up like mad but, then, it was the first AD I ever took. It was fantastic for me until it just stopped working. It did indeed suppress my hunger.

same difference. sustained-release/extended-release

its normal to be started on buproprion at 150mg a day (75mg x2). 200-300mg is what I've encountered as the nominal daily AD dosage.
I've never gotten the sustained-release, and have taken as much as 600mg at a time while I was in acute w/d from opiates.
as for smoking-cessation, after I started on the buproprion I lost all desire to use tobacco. even if I did try to have a coffin-nail, they'd just taste really funny and make me feel progressively more uncomfortable, eventually giving me a headache.

Wellbutrin in SR or XL formula helped lift my mood, and yep, I lost weight and was horny all the time.

The instant release form felt like a pill of crack and not in the good way.

I couldn't stand to be around smoke on it,. I found it to be quite effective as an antidepressant.

I wish you the best with your new protocol.

With the SR you take it once a day or twice a day atleast 8 hours apart if your on 300mg's a day. With the XL version you just take it once a day and thats it. Ive been on both versions and havent noticed much difference.

Since it's a DNRI it causes weight loss instead of weight gain in most people. It's the only anti-depressant i can really take at all these days to be honest. The rest ive tried either make me manic or do absolutly nothing.

I wish I could be prescribed Roxy's for my depression, because they make me feel happy and content with myself :) Good thing I have lots of sources for those on my own.

About how long should I wait until the Wellbutrin kicks in? I've heard that it can start working in as little as a week?

Oh ya cause opiates sure do the trick long term for depression 8) . Yup they certainly helped my depression right enough :|

Wellbutrin can start working in as little as a week but it really takes 2 weeks atleast until you start to feel the full benefits of it.
