I'm wondering about the possibility of combining bupropion with lisdexamfetamine. Heres the theory:

lisdexamfetamineis metabolized into dextroamphetamine in your body, which increases dopamine levels in your brain. Bupropion is a DNRI and will keep the released dopamine in your brain from being reuptaken, therefor increasing dopamine levels even more.

Bupropion has a metabolite, hydroxybupropion, which is a pretty significant CYP2D6 inhibitor (which i'm fairly sure is one of the major metabolic pathways of dextroamphetamine), which would mean, in theory, that it would take your body longer to metabolize the dextroamphetamine.

Basically, higher, longer, while having to use less lisdexamfetamine.

The flip side:

Bupropion is said to have somewhat of a stimulant effect all its own, which may lead to undesirably high blood pressure.

There is an increased risk or seizures when combining these drugs. However, I have never had a seizure and have no history of epilepsy in my family.

I am a 180 pound, healthy, 19 year old male. My current plan is to start taking 150mg of Wellbutrin twice a day for three or four days and then to take a 15mg dose of Vyvanse. I'm hoping that because Vyvanse has to be metabolized in order to become active, any problems will show up gradually. I will of course have a sober sitter who can drive me to the hospital to get me pumped full of benzos if need be. If this is successful, I will start slowly working my Vyvanse dosage up over subsequest attempts and document the effects and cost / benefit of this combo

But before I attempt this, I wanted to ask for the advice of my fellow bluelighters. Does anyone strongly recommended against this experiment, and if so, why?

I am very open to your opinions, thanks in advance guys :)

For what its worth I've read a few reports of doctors prescribing these two together to work synergistically. All of these reports stated that the combo was started under close supervision.

You are closely supervised just as much as any other drug combo your put on. Basically you need to update your doctor about what's going on. This combination is prescribed all the time, I used to be on Wellbutrin with Dexedrine for like 4 years. I've also been on Adderall with it. The Wellbutrin is prescribed for depression, not to increase the effects of the amphetamines. It may or may not but I felt no difference in being on Wellbutrin or any SSRI with the Dexedrine/Adderall. I was put on Wellbutrin about four months ago with my Adderall and I became very angry, irritated. It could just be a bad reaction to the Wellbutrin.

Thanks man. Hearing from someone who's actually done this combo is making me much less nervous about trying it. I'll probably post an experience report on Erowid when all is said and done and post a link in this thread.

I've been taking the combo of Bupropion XL 300mg and Vyvanse 70mg for a couple of years now with no ill effects. The bup (Welbutrin) definitely increases the dopamine available for focus and well-being, without having to increase amp intake. I'm in my 50's so this is easier on my heart and blood pressure! In the past I've taken the bup with Adderall SR and could tell it kicked it up a notch.
