Hello Bluelight!

I have been a long time lurker, and have always found the answers to whatever question my inquiring mind would want to know about my DOCs without having to do too much digging around here. Believe me, I have typed some pretty weird questions into google adding bluelight to the end and without fail some other lost soul out there has pondered the same thing. LOL. Well, today was the first time I could not find any discussion about an experience I am having, so I guess it's time now that I add my own two cents to the conversation. Haha. I'll save the questions for specific threads.

I consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to drugs, especially cannabis, opiates, and stims but I definitely learn something new every time I research a topic on Bluelight. I like to think of this place as somewhere that is 'home' to 'my people', Lol, meaning that in the real world most would be surprised to learn just how extensive my drug experiences have been, even some of my closest friends, but here I know that I do not have to fear judgement or ridicule. You, like myself, are not afraid to go against society's rules. Drugs do not always have to be taboo, and choosing to partake in them does not always mean you are immature, stupid, or even worse a criminal. I am someone who thrives on adventure and experiences, so I usually will try anything at least once. This may not be the smartest approach to life perhaps, as my mind wonders to that one time I took a bump of what I could only pray was just speed with some random dutch girl in a taxi in Amsterdam, but I can guarantee you it's the most rewarding, and hey I'm still kicking! LOL.

I'll end my introduction by sharing my desire to promote Harm Reduction. I first learned about the practice during an amazing opportunity I had studying abroad in Europe a few years back. We actually got to visit drug consumption rooms in Germany and see firsthand the benefits of using harm reduction in communities. Within a decade of opening, overdoses had gone from over 500 to less than 3 a year, with the help of needle exchange programs the streets got cleaner, and the drug users actually sought help for their addictions. Of course the fact that a person off the street is allowed to come use their DOC in a safe and sterile environment, even providing spoons and tourniquets, without fear of arrest is a pretty tough pill to swallow for most Americans, but the fact remains, Harm Reduction works! After my trip, I chose to focus my undergrad research on this topic, and can say I am quite passionate about educating people on how practicing Harm Reduction is a better approach to help curb drug abuse than our infamous "War on Drugs", which has failed drastically. Helping people take back control of their lives instead of further destroying it by deeming them criminals can only benefit society and it is unfortunate that America has yet to completely accept this idea. I am committed to helping make this a possibility, and I can only hope that drug policy reform will happen soon in the states.

I am thankful that sites like this exist because not only does it help educate people on safe drug practices, but it also gives a sense of community to those of us who think more progressively than others.... and of course like to have a little fun sometimes! Haha. =D

See ya around, Bluelighters!

Hi there and welcome aboard!

You made out some pretty good points about harm reduction and as it might be hard for americans to understand our European concepts about harm reduction and preventing use of drugs it definately is hard to see how things are done in the States. Before joining bluelight I definately thought that an IV user could just go to a pharmacy anywhere the world and ask for needles and other stuff and then be handed them over after paying for them but it seems like not every corner of the world has same views on addiction.
