OK, I´ve had this crazy idea, and no, I wasn´t even on pot!!!
So my idea is the following: all stimulants cause a great rush, which last from 10 minutes in the case of crack, a couple of hours for meths, etc, but then you crash & feel like shit for a couple of hours or days, maybe deppresion or you just crash like if you haven´t sleep in days.
But what if a drug could do the exact opposite? Make you feel like crap for, let´s say, an hour, but then you´ll feel proportionally good for a day (of course, not as good as if the nice effects lasted for an hour, the "level of goodness" spread through the day like butter on bread).
They wouldn´t be very a popular & mainstream substances, but think about contests of ppl where the one who could take more of this drugs won? Interesting eh? And then, he or she would be rewarded not only with money or other stuff, but also with a "good" feeling for a couple of days.
Is the existence of such as substance possible?
Since the CNS (central nervous system) tends to balance feelings, I think it could exist.
Anyway, flame away guys ;) .
P.S.: I need to get some sleep ASAP :) .

Thorazine is a dopamine antagonist I believe..... and there's absolutely nothing you can do with that that results in you feeling good.
Also once upon a time I wondered if withdrawl from opiate antagonists results in a good nod or something, but apparently this is not at all the case.
The brain is pretty much designed to make sure we never feel too good. Contentedness isn't good for reproductive success ya know...

i've read something about how dopamine levels are directly related to euphoria experienced. if this is true, then the secret to perm euphora is increasing dopamine... GHB is supposed to stimulate dopamine production once its effects wear off, but inhibits dopamine while its in your system, so GHB isgood while using it and should be after, right? just a thought.
if its really that easy to spend life in euphoria, then an irreversable SDRI or SNRI should definately cause one to feel this one. all i've seen caused by these is people acting weird tho... who knows what actually causes euphoria.

^^^ You do get a little dopamine kick at the end of a GHB "trip". This is why, people falling asleep on dopamine will oftentimes get woken up at clockwork times in the middle of the night and feel strangely active, this is the dopamine kick they are experiencing. It in no way permanently raises dopamine levels, but it is good to clean your room at the tail end of drinking GHB.

It would be impossible for a drug to make you feel like crap for a few hours and then make you feel great.
Because in order to feel great, you have to have a flood of chemicals being released in your brain. Eventually your brain would regulate the chemicals back to the normal state, at which point you would feel a hangover again.

Stick a pinecone up your butt. For a couple days it'll hurt like complete shit. But think about it -- once you take it out, man... life will be grand considering you don't have a pinecone in your butt.

^^ Hah, that is such a wonderful description of 5. Unfortunately the euphoria probably has more to do with the fact that you realize you arent going to die and being so glad at being sober again rather than any chemical effect.
Tho it was pretty good with nitrous.
Anyway I have personally wondered this for a long time. It will have to do something more than just keep dopamine levels increased as your body would almost certainly respond by downregulating the dopamine receptors.
However in response to one of the posts above it certainly is theoretically possible. There are people who are slightly manic (there is some technical psychological name for them) who just seem to be nearly always euphoric, as well as more succesfull. If this state exists naturally I see no reason we couldn't artificially reproduce it. In short the self correcting mechanisms in the brain are nowhere near perfect and we can trick them.
The reason that it seems way easier to have a comedown than a come'up' is that comedowns are mostly an effect of depleting (or otherwise damaging) a nuerotransmitter/neuropeptide. We know alot of NTs which produce bad feelings when depleted I am unaware of any that produces good feelings.
