Have any former DXM users had the experience of taking a *medically therapeutic* dose of cough medicine (Robitussin, Mucinex, etc) and feeling like it got them high?
For some context, I'm in my late 20's now and haven't robotripped in probably at least 5 years. During my teenage and early adult years however, I was a huge DXM fan. In high school I was tripping frequently to the point it was somewhat problematic. I would usually take somewhere between 600-900 mg every few weeks, or at least a few times/month. The highest trip I can remember was 1000+ mg. Off the top of my head I would guess at least 60 total DXM trips in my life. Not surprisingly, I lost the magic a few years ago and subsequently stopped using DXM. I eventually discovered Ketamine and had a lot of fun with that, but I feel like had such a heavy cross-tolerance from all the robotripping I used to do.
Anyways back to my main question- There have been a few times recently where I was sick with pneumonia and bronchitis. During these times my doctor suggested taking Mucinex with an expectorant to help me recover. The DXM dosage in these tablets is only 60 mg. I have noticed at least 3x separate times where I took 1x tablet with 60 mg of DXM and then it felt like I was having flashbacks. All of these times felt very similar to my past robotrips. It wasn't like I was instantly on a 3rd plateau trip, but the physical effects felt very much like I had just started coming off a big trip. The physical sensations, dilated pupils, teeth clenching, robowalk- all of these things returned just from taking a small 60 mg dose. It was actually kind of bothersome to me because I didn't want to feel high while I was miserably sick, so now I have become cautious of even taking cough medicine anymore.
It's a very strange incident to me because the DXM dose I am taking is incredibly far from a recreational dose, but it seems to be triggering some flashbacks or something? I wasn't even aware that was possible which is why I'm curious if anyone has similar experiences.
