Weight Training or Running?

probably a majority of guys lift to improve physique to improve female's perception towards oneself.

^ It all depends on what you wish to waste your life doing. If being able to lift a heavy object over and over again is your aspiration in life, so superficial women/men can drool over you and use you/be used, that's cool.

Some dudes waste their entire lives having fun playing games and using online dating sites to meet women/men. Other dudes waste their lives working so they can die rich and alone. Others are obsessed with finding the perfect balance in their lives, without ever achieving it.

But yeah, I think every guy should at least try to get somewhat muscular at least once in their lives.

i work out quite a lot, but attracting women is never my primary goal. Yeah it gets you in better shape, and yeah, quite a lot of women find that more attractive.

However, if you are training just to attract women, there is probably some underlying issue. You don't need to be stacked to get girls.

Sure, but when you go to the beach and your arms are 3" around and your stomach is hanging over your shorts and your lats are hidden under a layer of fat, what girl is going to swoon for your shapely hamstrings?

3" arms, a beer belly and fat-covered lats ain't the "typical" sprinter's physique. But I see what you're saying. One would probably wanna "round out" the sprinting with some upper body calesthinics.

yikes.

wanting to be attractive isn't nearly as shallow as haters make it out to be. when you work hard to achieve goals in the gym, it's not just a narcissistic satisfaction. you improve not only your looks, but also your health, strength and self-confidence. so when the guys that put that work in are attracting women, it's not just because of a vapid, shallow attraction to muscles . . it's because strength, confidence and follow-through are attractive traits to anyone.

get your lift in then run afterwards. that way when you lift you have the explosiveness needed in your muscles.

What if you are only doing it so you can be strong enough to do hard labor; or, if you are getting your body ready for moving day? Further, it is good to have at least an average muscular physique to at least protect your bones and internal organs. There are quite a few people that exercise and are in a monogamous relationship, and don't try to improve their physique so they can find a mate.

double ewe- I was simply responding to Changed in the same tone he is using, so it wasn't directed at anyone else. I guess that the rest of my message didn't quite hint at the sarcasm I was trying to use.

If you're doing manual labor you're going to be building muscle doing shit like lifting couches or stacks of wood, etc... not doing squats and deadlifts and reverse crunches. I don't believe anybody works out just in case a friend calls up and surprises him with a request to move a couch.

This is all moot though, as lifting weights is better for you than running, no matter your motivation.

I find lifting weights is more enjoyable and is much better for body composition. Running marathons or doing lots of cardio won't really do much for your physique, I find most marathon runners to look kind of emaciated. But I'm also somebody who has trouble maintaining weight, so that is also a factor in my preference.

glutathione supplemented to keep the cardio from consuming the muscle.

Sorry to take this thread off topic but were can I find the info on glutathione preventing my running catabolising my weight training gains? Till now I have just been taking some BCAA prior to running. Also I was under the impression (open to being told i'm wrong) that there wasn't any direct glutathione supplements.

Perhaps, but it also feels awesome to be in great physical shape. This is a drug forum so people are obviously familiar with doing something to feel good. Working out feels good. Even more than that though, being physically fit, is an incredible physical and mental sensation. It also makes other aspects of your life better, like sex.

And yet I've learned more about myself "lifting a heavy object over and over again" than any other activity I've ever done. In the gym your only opponent is yourself and your self imposed limitations. The gym isn't a physical experience, its a mental one. You don't just grow physically but mentally. Maybe its something you should experience before putting down.

Yeah there are those people at the gym that work out in front of the mirror, but most people go because it's a part of a routine they have been maintaining for years. They can't go back to feeling fatigued and out of shape.

There is much more to exercise than meets the eye. After I got in decent shape, I felt better everyday. I was able to be more active, do more housework, increase tolerance to pain, and build up stamina and endurance.

There was that moment when I was able to help a friend move that I realized good habits pay off.

+1000

I hate endurance exercise (the burn in my lungs especially). I've always kind of done cardio by rotating between three weightlifting exercises at a time without rest between them. One muscle group recovers while another gets worked. This way I gain strength and some cardiovascular improvements in about a half hour of intense exercise. It sucks at first, but once you get used to it it's the fastests and most convenient way to stay healthy.

Regarding the narcissistic comment, that's ludicrous. It's not narcissistic to desire a body and mind that is in harmony and to seek the profound emotional, memory, and cognitive improvements that come about from increased blood vasculature in the brain in response to exercise. Physical fitness is part of self-actualization.

yeah, most people go for a run because they are directly looking for "profound emotional, memory, and cognitive improvements that come about from increased blood vasculature in the brain in response to exercise. Physical fitness is part of self-actualization."

that may be part of it, but i'd say when someone close to you drops dead of a heart-attack, you become pretty motivated to take better care of yourself.
