Weed, Booze, Cocaine and Other Old School "Medicine" Ads

Granted, hindsight is 20/20, but some awfully strange substances have been used for pharmaceutical purposes in the past -- and some might argue, continue to be used today. Here are some vintage advertisements touting items that we might balk at taking today.

I honestly don't see that much difference between those ads and the ads that you see today for pharmaceuticals like sleep aids, anti depressants, ADHD meds, etc... All drugs have certain benefits and risks. Drugs are usually outlawed more for political reasons than for health concerns. Many of the drugs that are legal today will likely become out of favor and possibly illegal in the future.

They all seem to be worded so reasonably, it's indistinguishable from the ads of today.

My bet is in a century or so people will look back and lol at Xanax and Oxy ads much the same way we are lolling at these.

but i want to see a reintroduction of tonics and elixirs when these fucking laws dissovle. Think about all the NEW possibilities and concoctions!
 
Wow. Read the pediatric Nembutal suppository ad. "Keep a supply of all four sizes on hand. Be ready for the little ones before their fears begin."
