Going thru Suboxone WD's, and have also battled depression most of my life, so coming off the Subby really brings on the depression along with the WD symptoms. The RLS im having is by FAR the worst part of what ive been experiencing. Bout to start taking combo of 5-htp and L-Tyrosine.

Picked up an interesting Restless Legs formulation as well that contains a big ole cocktail of different chemicals. Here they are, as its read from the back of the box.

Arsenicum Album 12x HPUS - for creeping crawling itch
Lycopodium 6X HPUS - for restless legs, while lying down
Pulsatilla 6X HPUS - for constant urge to move legs
Rhus Toxicodendron 6X HPUS - for restless legs, better with activity
Sulphur 6X HPUS - for itching, tingling, urge to move legs
Zinc Metallicum 12X HPUS - twitching and jerking of legs, while sitting

Ive never heard of any of this crap.... but my RLS is so fucking horrible I have only been able to get about an hour, maybe two if im lucky, of sleep each night for the past 2 weeks or so, and ive only been able to get that much from taking a bit of tramadol before bed to subside the symptoms. Its the worst after waking up from that 1 to 2 hour nap, the RLS is HORRIBLE during waking hours.

So I would like to know if any of these chemicals would be a problem taken along with 100mg 5HTP and 500-1000mg's of L-tyrosine. I dont have any more Tramadol so ill need all the help I can get. I NEED to get some more sleep somehow...

Ive already been taking the L-Tyrosine, and would like to add the 5-HTP and the RLS formula to it. I would also really like to try to take a little DXM at night to help with this as well, as I hear it can help with RLS and help with sleep.

So I would also like to know if DXM is safe to take along with these things as well. Hopefully someone can give me an answer. Thanks for the help in advance!

I've never heard of any of them. Sounds like a scam to me. This 6X or 12X stuff makes me think its "homeopathic" (read: contains no actual active ingredients).

interesting... what exactly does that mean for it not to have any active ingredients? Should I be posting this in the advanced drug discussion due to the ingredients being obscure? I would like to try to get an answer asap so I can take some of this stuff immediately and get some relief and shut eye.

either way, does anyone know if DXM is safe to take with L-Tyrosine and 5-HTP?

In homeopathic "medicine" usually "X" indicates dilution rather than concentration. HPUS stands for Homeopathic "Pharmacopiea" of the United States and is a catalog of homeopathic "medicines". Most of them are >99% inert filler e.g. lactose, alcohol or water by mass.

(I doubt arsenic and sulphur is a valid supplement for RLS anyway).

DXM is perfectly fine to take with amino acid supplements.

lol.... thats just great. I cant believe theyre allowed to sell that shit. What a joke. Anyway, thank you for the advice. I paid for the stuff, so im going to go ahead and take it, even if it does nothing.

I do want to be absolutely sure about the DXM though. I made the mistake of taking some with my Tramadol the other night and had a bout of seratonin syndrome, so now im quite worried about taking any more of it til I know for SURE that it will not interact negatively with the 5-HTP and L-Tyrosine.

DXM does affect some of those feel good chemicals such as seratonin and dopamine doesnt it? Im not totally sure about it, but I thought I might have read it somewhere. If its true then that is worrisome as I thought it was generally a no-no to mix any two drugs that affect the same type of chemical.

I imagine a small dose of 5-HTP shouldn't be a problem. I've never tried this combination, however.

The L-Tyrosine should be fine, as sekio mentioned.

thanks for the assurance. I will take the 5-htp and l-tyrosine. I would still really like to know about the DXM as I would really like to take some to help with the RLS as that is my biggest issue when it comes to sleep, and I have heard that it helps with RLS. Just want to be absolutely sure it will not interact negatively with the 5-htp and l-tyrosine

don't take dxm with 5-htp...dxm also has an effect on serotonin and u could potentially get SS from that ...not sure exactly how high the risk is but i know the risk exists

gotcha. Thanks for the advice. If I was going to take it with it I would have only taken 30-60mg's, just enough to get some therapeuticness out of it. Either way though, at least for now, im not going to risk it, specially after my recent tramadol+dxm scare.

I could certainly use some advice on RLS relief though. Is there anything out there that I can take with 5-htp and l-tyrosine that will help with RLS? It is literally driving me nuts! I really need some relief for it over everything else.

By the way, I took some of the RLS formula stuff, just to see if it really would do anything to help. The package specified that your supposed to take 2-3 tabs under the tongue. I did so and within about 20 minutes or so I definitely felt something. I cant say for certain that it wasnt placebo based considering I realise how powerful placebo can be, but this really doesnt seem like that. I definitely feel different.

I would describe it as relaxed and light feeling, with a nice calm feeling throughout the body that I have never felt before. It may sound strange, but I keep thinking the words "light and minty". Thats how my body feels right now after taking it. Its kind of nice actually. It seems to have reduced some of the RLS sensation I had throughout most of my body, however I still feel the RLS symptoms in my legs, and my legs at least are still quite antsy. Go figure.

I can definitely feel a light, "fresh" like body sensation that was definitely not there before, so I am thinking that at least part of this is not placebo. Whether or not it will help me sleep, we shall see. Will report back in the morning. Heres to hoping!

I guess so. It is what it is. I dont know shit about it besides that it seemed to help. Couldnt say whether its pure placebo or not.

But damn, I took the 5-HTP and L-Tyrosine bout a half hour after the RLS formula, and I didnt expect it to really do anything for a while since I had eaten a few hours earlier.

But jesus, I did not expect this! I have been dead exhausted all week from the lack of sleep and feelin like crap. And then some time goes by, went and smoked a cig, took a #2 and now out of nowhere im not even fucking tired! Like I feel like I have all kinds of energy and just feel really happy! Not to mention the RLS symptoms are almost completely gone. And I thought 5-HTP was supposed to be a precusor to Tryptophan and that id get even more tired, but nope. I just broke out the Happy Hardcore. The biggest change is the RLS, it virtually vanished. Maybe im just ecstatic over that, because of how insane I was becoming over the damn nagging of the RLS.

Sorry for my excitement, but this is just too fucking awesome. Hell, I havent been happy like this in forever. I think I truly forgot what it can be to be clean of opiates and actually happy at the same time, considering I havent been truly opiate free for a good 7 years. Jesus, I think ill have to sleep on this one and try the combo again tomorrow night to be sure but man if this ends up working as good as it feels like it is now then im going to be the happiest dude alive! I really hope this ends up being the answer for me.

By the way, just remembered that my formulation of 5-HTP has some other stuff in it. 100mg's of the 5-HTP, some B6, Magnesium, and Valerian. Hell Valerian is supposed to make you tired too. too wierd.

well, I once again didnt get jack shit for sleep. I ended up feeling tired again shortly after posting, possibly due to the conversion of tryptamine to melatonin. Anyway, I fell right to sleep as usual, but once again I woke up bout an hour and a half later, with the RLS running rampant.

It seems that my RLS in general is a lot worse when im at rest, like when sitting down or laying down, and its always by far the worst after waking from my short sleeps. So it seems that the more im at rest, the worse it is. And based on last night, it seems like the stuff I took did nothing to help it, at least while sleeping. I also woke up with a pretty bad headache.

Any suggestions on what I can take to get some more all around relief? Im really starting to get desparate here...

First off, let me say that I know allll to well how it is to have RLS. It fucking sucks. Stay on the track you're on though because the RLS has to go away- at the very least it will get better soon. I myself am doing a really slow ultram taper and it's really helping. I wouldn't recommend taking tram though since you're two weeks without anything if I'm reading you correctly. How high a dose of sub did you jump off?
If you get really, really desperate- just order some ultram online and take 1 tab before bed- that should really help you. Don't go back to using!! You've come a long way already!!
