I've hardly ever read the stuff on this part of BL let alone posted on here but this morning that changed.

I'll not go into my drug history as I am sure most known about me but to keep it short I have been a long term Heroin user & addict, I first smoked Heroin in 2001 & been a regular user since then, even before I got a habit I used Heroin 2-5 times a week.

The last time I tried to get sober I did well but I failed YET AGAIN due to the PAWS & it crushed me, how do people who have been long term Opiate addicts cope with PAWS & get past it to keep sober?

Loperamide short term for diarrhea is a start. I'll edit in a minute with a list I posted somewhere else
Blackseed oil
Polygala
Kratom &akuamma ultra low dose cause antag(look into it can mess with tolerance)
Antihistamines
Black pepper & Turmeric
Ashwaganda
Bacopa
Kava
Valerian
DXM
Corydalis
DLPA
Stephania tubers (hasubanan alkaloids)
Chaste berry is supposed to have very mild opioid affinity
Cats claw

Heavy, daily exercise helps alot. No one likes to hear that suggestion though. But it works. Shit i dealt with high dose methadone PAWS via daily exercise, which is the worst of the worst in terms of opioid PAWS .

Comfort meds such as those listed by @paranoid android should definitely help as will exercise as @negrogesic mentioned. Maintenance therapy (high dose methadone, followed by rapid detox) is how I got off Heroin alongside CBT and exercise.

Healthy forms of escapism are good too; read some sci-fi or fantasy novels or thrillers, get out of your own head, the telly isn't quite as good ime. Getting out in nature can be really good too.

Psychedelics can help if used judiciously with a clear intention too ime. Creating positive affirmations and mantras while on psychedelics are also powerful ime. For example "I don't need heroin, I am strong." It can be as simple a mantra as that.

Most hardcore addicts can deal with the acute WDs I reckon, even severe ones, but the big boss of getting off gear is PAWS ime.

Bonne courage and bonne chance @Zopiclone bandit !

EDIT: Petting puppies or kittens helped me too. I'm not joking; the feeling of unconditional love and affection from an animal can lend you perspective and be comforting.

Noticed this thread yesterday and as was due to spend some time this morning with a couple of 20+ years heavy opiate users who have been clean for over 10 years each now I took the opportunity to ask them about how they dealt with PAWS

Both took numerous attempts to get off opiates. Person A managed on their fourth attempt over a 5 year period, Person B after "countless tries" over a decade or so.

Both of them said daily excercise was heavily instrumental in their successful attempt. Person A did mainly weights and gym stuff, while B comitted to a daily running regime. Neither were into excercise previously and both were in their mid 40's when they quit.

On top of the excercise regime, Person A focussed on learning and implementing a hardcore nutritional diet, also started forced-socialising outside of their previous social group, and learned 2 foreign languages and basic computer programing from scratch.

Person B used psychedelics (lsd-25 and mushrooms) monthly for around a year which he thinks was massively helpful, and also got into daily meditation and learned skills of radical acceptance to accept how terrible he felt with PAWS but still remaining non-judgemental regarding the experience (he learned not to frame it as 'bad' somehow, just accepting it as the reality of the present moment). B also began to study and practice Buddhism after their year of monthly psychedelics, which they think has been instumental for them in remaining opiate-free

That was their recollection of their experiences anyway mate
