I have trouble falling asleep quite regularly, and after exhausting through diazepam, ambien, and rivotril, I got a prescription for 20 tablets of flunitrazepam 2mg (I do not live in the US). Taking the recommended dosage did very little to help me sleep. A minimum of 2 pills, or 4mg, was needed to make me sleep.
However, this drug had an unexpected effect that I liked much better. Whenever I take it to sleep, the entire next day I am very calm, comprehensive, able to clearly express my ideas, and think them through as I speak.
This is a stark contrast to my usual self. I normally find it much harder to listen and understand complex instructions or ideas shared with others, and have even more difficulty expressing them. I usually rush out words and studder along my sentences as I try to think about what I trying to say, while at the same time thinking about the fact that I am studdering and sounding pathetic, it's like a never-ending cycle. This leads to a bit of paranoia whenever I open my mouth in public, as the self-consciousness just goes through the roof, and my mind completely blanks out as I'm about to speak. This type of behavior is responsible for the majority of people thinking I'm a little weird or unbalanced.
But when I take even just 1mg of flunitrazepam, I feel like every other normal person around me. My behavior is perfectly normal, I am much more sociable, interested in engaging in conversation with others, I crack jokes, and think clearly when in public situations. I've noticed that taking 1mg of flunitrazepam in the morning helps me sleep more than taking 2mg right before bed. This leads me to think that my problem with falling asleep comes from this social anxiety.
I know flunitrazepam is a dangerous benzo if abused, and I have no intention of taking it daily. However, I was wondering if any of you would know of a long-term drug that could give me similar results. I've been taking mirtazapine every night for the past few months, and was looking to replace it with a drug that could do some the things flunitrazepam did for me, be it with or without sleep-inducing effects. I'd appreciate any suggestions or comments. Thanks.
