What did or does people from the Islands think of him? Both the average Jane/Joe and more " sophisticated" folks, right and left wingers, Brits and Irish, men and women...?
I will play fair and say I loved the guy. Granted I was very young when he died and I am a foreigner, so many things were out of my understanding
I remember the dude being sometimes very basic in his humour and often openly sexist, but, to be honest, that only makes me miss him - to a degree, if you get me- in this sharply smart and surgically correct shit where we live today
So, how does people remember him?

It seems some countries are more 'woke' than others. Although the UK is in decline in many ways, it has become very 'woke' in general. When I had a holiday in Turkey about 10 years ago there was highly sexualised women all over the place on TV, and similary Mexican TV weather girl presenters wear the tightest, skimpiest, shortest outfits imaginable. And the cameras focus way more on them and their curves than the weather map lol. The clips are all over You Tube. Australia also in general seems to be decades behind the UK in their attitudes to many such things.

The funny thing is that it now seems to be perfectly OK to sexualise men on TV in adverts etc, but not so for women, and it's OK for women to talk openly about mens attractiveness, but it's not acceptable for men to talk about women in the same sort of way.

I know the dude wasn't 3xactly the Monty Pyton, but maybe he was a product of a gone time (his success can't be denied), or maybe he had just bet to primitive but winning stuff? I don't know.

If you look at some of the older movies, Humphrey Bogart, John Wayne, etc.. some of them would not fly today. Some are sexist, racist, and insult a part of society that is not wanting to be insulted today. I mean I am ok with entertainment. I remember an episode of All In The Family where Archie Bunker and George Jefferson toasted each other to good ol fashioned racism. We could laugh more then, yet at the same time it was insulting. But damn could we take it. Most did not get offended. Now everything offends.

With my father being one of only a couple of people still able to tolerate my thoughts we have discussed the cultural divides, particularly those across the pond and on more than one occasion I have told him how difficult I would find it should I ever be exposed to the use of 'woke' being cited as a problem. I understand how much grief I will get for saying this but I used to think that being socially progressive and conscious of systemic inequalities was something shared amongst young people and especially drug users from the mid 90's onwards. I get how irritating the policing of political correctness and other bad faith signals of abstract virtue are but the declaration that the UK's biggest problem is 'woke' culture is patently ridiculous considering the current government, as well as the disgusting mess previous Parliaments have dragged us into since the introduction of 'austerity measures'.

I walked straight into that one, jumping to the conclusion that there would only be one hypothetical reason to house biologically male sex offenders with the one population considered most vulnerable from a gut reaction. It never occurred to me that we are jailing standard male perverts with women because reasons. Soft on crime I suppose.
