please dont move this to social, and dont be an ass by replying with some "socialistic" post!!! ;)
say you have a wart, that you want to remove, not on your genitals, the palm of your hand (see the potential for a wart in a worse place?) you have tried all the shit the doc's give you to no avail.
freezing isnt an option as a special oppointment has to be made and you cant aford time off work.
can you just "dig them out"? is there a "root"?
any information is greatly appreciated as this is a right pain in the arse ! :(

indeed, they do have a root system. obvioudly, the bigger the wart the deeper the roots.
options: warts need to breathe in order to grow. so, if it's still quite small, you can apply a clear nail varnish onto it every two or three days...or as often as necessary to keep it covered until it dies.
personally, i had a few on my arm which i removed with a razor. every day i slowly cut away the offending parasite. sometimes this did require cutting fairly deeply, but i was hardly sore.
and it worked. mind you, i have a few small scares but i like scares. besides, it's at least it kept the occassional boredom company! ;)

well than how do u get rid of gentital warts without seeing a doc???
You don't! Quite simple. Warts (genital and otherwise) are viri... pretty nasty ones at that. See a doc- it takes all of a few second to burn off a wart (if you have access to liquid nitrogen you can do it yourself- but be careful- use a q-tip and apply). For genital warts- this is a serious problem and you have no option but seeing a doc (not me).

Anyone know about plantar's warts? I've had one for years on my foot (not super big but DEEP). I should get it frozen with N2 (which I do periodically) but it's so deep it requires many (maybe 20) freezings and it's too much of a hassle to make an appt every time.
I've also tried that acid (I think maybe it was salicylic acid?) stuff that you apply (it's OTC) but that didnt do shit either.
Can I try cutting it out (gradually)?
*me, who knows very little about warts*

fairnymph,
when i was 17 or so, i had 23 planters wart on the soles of my feet. yup, that fucking many. so, hopefully, i'll be of some help....
planters warts are not caused by swimming or damp feet, but they are encouraged by such conditions. so, make sure you dry your feet after showering and go barefoot/sandal type shoes.
i origianlly tried to have these buggers removed by freezing them. each time, we thought we got them. not so. they have vert determined root systems and if you don't quite get the whole
sytem, it will just start to grow again. this is particularly true for deep ones, which was in my case.
my only other option was to have them cut out. and i don't suggest you do this yourself primarily for the reason that if you want to remove the entire root system, you'll have to cut away some of you healthy, untouched and living skin/flesh around the wart. ouch!
i'm sure you're doctor can do so in his surgery if it's just one. no doubt, he'll give you a general anaesthetic, cut it out, clean and off you go. you'll need to avoid walking directly on that area for a while.
also, if you do decide to go with this option, i suggest you do it asap as they do grow quite quickly. good luck........! and it ain't that sore, honest.

Thanks for the great advice, Acuity!
I guess I'll get an appointment to get it cut out ASAP. I've had it for like 6 years so it's pretty fucking deep.
Well, I hope they give me lots of pain killers. I have VERY sensitive feet. :(

well genital warts is herpes and you cant get rid of that, goto a doctor. but i had one on my hand about 10 years ago, compoud w almost got rid of it, but it hurt too much(i was like 12 or something) so i took it off. it then grew bigger. i cut it off a few times and one day it just stayed down and turned the same color as my skin. its still there but you cant tell at all. ive heard psychological stuff (like tracing it on paper, then burning the paper) will work if you can convice yourself to beleive in it. thats the best way for young children. i would recomend compound w though, if you can take the pain.
ohyeah i tried the clear nailpolish thing before anything else, it didnt work for me.

I have had a couple warts before... the OTC stuff WILL work, if you "prep" the wart first. My nurse-mother told me the following tips. I guarantee this will work:
1) Warts don't like heat. Soak your (hand??) in the HOTTEST water you can handle... Continue to soak until you hand is very "pruny"... like after a long bath. Continue to refresh the water, keeping the temperature nice and hot. VERY hot.
2) Find some nail or toe clippers (one with a flat head), or cuticle cutters. Cuticle cutters work better. Sanitize the tool, and the wart using isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Cut off the "pruny" head of the wart, and a bit more, if you can handle the pain. Squeezing hard around the area numbs the pain.
3) Find a NEW nail file (nail files carry some nasty shit) and buff the wart. This will rough up the area so the Over-the-counter meds will work more effectively.
4) once again, wash and sanitize using alcohol, and thoroughly dry.
5) Use an OTC wart remover. Follow the box instructions, but repeat my steps whenever you change a pad.
This will work I promise. soak, cut, and buff. The effectiveness of the wart remover will be tenfold.

The OTC acid treatment thingy stuff does work, but you need to apply it very regularly and alot more than they recommend on the instructions. You need to keep it so that it wet with the stuff constantly.
I had an outbreak of about 6 on my hand a few years ago, the weird thing was that once I treated the biggest two (took about 3 days of intensive treatment) all the rest faded away as well.

Wow, Jase entered the wart discussion! Ahh, the bonding power of warts.... ;)
For those of you who claim OTC treatment work if you are vigilant, is this also true of plantar warts? Or do I definitley need to get them cut out as recommended by Acuity?

yup, it's me again.
well, i've tried a med similiar to OTC on planters warts and it does work. but in my experience with warts (a friggin lot) it doesn't work as well on deep ones.
also, using OTC on a deep planters wart might take up to four weeks to get rid of it whereas cutting out might take two hours.....foot loose and fancy free!
oh well. best of luck! :)
