Mods, Not sure if this deserves its own thread - feel free to move it. Possible bad batch or strong batch doing the rounds. Be careful.

POLICE investigating the discovery of the bodies of a man and a woman in a house in Innaloo believe the couple died of a heroin overdose.

Major Crime Squad and Forensic officers have been at the scene all day after the grim discovery of the bodies in Donar Street this morning.

The man, 37, and woman, 40, were found dead in a near-new Homeswest townhouse around 9.20am after neighbours noticed a "strange smell'' coming from the unit and called an ambulance.

It is believed the couple had been dead for several days before they were found.

This afternoon, Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Fyfe from the Major Crime Squad said it appeared from witness accounts that the couple had been shooting up heroin over the weekend. “They’ve both died as a result of the heroin use, it appears at this time,” Det Sen Sgt Fyfe said.

“We have to wait for toxicology results whether it’s a bad batch of heroin, or a strong batch."

Det Snr Sgt Fyfe said police had investigated a witness who had been with the deceased on Saturday and the couple may have died later that day after taking heroin.

"All the doors and windows were closed, there was no fresh air in the house and obviously the heat we've had over the past couple of days has played havoc with the scene,'' he said.

A neighbour who alerted police was disturbed by a bad smell coming from the house and reportedly saw the male occupant lying on the kitchen floor when he looked in through a window.

Det Snr Sgt Fyfe urged people who shot up heroin to call an ambulance immediately if there was any question of trouble, saying that would not spark a police investigation.

Det Snr Sgt Fyfe urged people to contact ambulance authorities if they thought a drug overdose had occurred.

“We don’t take any action in relation to drug overdoses,” he said.

The townhouse is part of a group of units which were built only a year ago, neighbours said.

saw this briefly on the news last night... very sad and unfortunate..

shit like this is what puts me off using H and needles... (this doesnt mean that the people in the article IVed, they might have ODed from havin lines)

Good idea posting this up, Gurner JoshE; heads up and be careful for WA heroin users.

I have no idea how the distribution of heroin happens in this country, but probably a good idea for H users across the country to be careful as well.

I'll tell you this much. A "heroin" overdose is a heroin overdose no matter what over there.
They won't go digging for fentanyl analogues and such in WA unless the family hounds the police to investigate and even if that is found out they didn't tell the media.

I think there is someone there intentionally selling very cut down but potent opioids there and have been for the past few years, I have a lot of friends back there and have heard stories of people dieing off very small hits when everyone else was fine.. it just cannot be cut well enough to be a used as heroin doses no matter how its cut so a point or whatever is one decent dose.

^ That is some weird shit and I do wonder how much fentanyl and/or other potent opioids make it into street 'heroin'. It would be particularly interesting if it were the case in WA but not elsewhere, similar to how SA seems to have a lot more DOx adulterated 'acid' than other states. I have always been curious as to what would cause things like that to happen in a very localised area without the trend really spreading elsewhere.

It is entirely possible though that in the group perhaps the people that dropped had consumed other drugs that the rest were unaware of. If I recall correctly most fatal heroin overdoses involve benzodiazepines and/or alcohol. Even if the whole group had consumed said drugs just because their heroin tolerances were on par does not mean their tolerance to other depressants were similar.

There is also the fact that it is entirely possible for legitimate heroin to not be homogenous. Obviously it is much easier to get a homogenous product with diacetylmorphine than fentanyl and its various analogues but this doesn't mean there isn't inconsistently cut heroin out there.

Years ago I read a book written by a former plain clothes cop, I believe it is called 'The Street' and in which he recounts some of his more interesting stories as a plainclothes officer in the 80's working St Kilda when it was rife with heroin. In one particular story there is a new heroin dealer who a well known prostitute overdoses and dies off his gear, her friend agrees to set up this dealer and when they buy the couple foils off him they are pure glucose. They arrest the guy and find heroin and dealing paraphernillia at his apartment. When interviewed he describes how he was told to purchase and package heroin and he retardedly misunderstood and instead of mixing the glucose and heroin as powder he packaged each into seperate foils and then proceeded to mix the foils together on a table. As in like, so you no longer could determine which foils were heroin and which were glucose, instead of making a homogenous powder THEN packaging it.

I have always wondered if this story was true, it seems absolutely absurd but at the same time I have known many people to do many stupid things, and there are not many things that people are less educated on and often have a stupid approach towards than drugs.

At the end of the day when you purchase street drugs, whether they contain what they have been represented to contain or something else, it is a fucking crap shoot. Even should you get legitimate heroin there are numerous circumstances that could possibly lead to accidental overdose.

However for these two people using together to die off the one batch seems to me that it is probably more likely to be particularly potent heroin compared to what they are used to as opposed to fentanyl.

I think the authors name is something like Lachlan McCulloch IIRC, there was a sequel called 'The Street 2' and it was perhaps that book that contains the story I am talking about, its certainly one of them.

Just a suggestion: If you had heroin discussion threads that allow talk about availability, general quality, like other continental forums (EADD, ect...) and not characterize such discussion as sourcing provided specifics are avoided (specific places and prices avoided) you might better fulfill BL's Harm Reduction mandate and decrease the incidence of relapse. Don't worry info won't be passed on to LEOs that they don't know- they have a sea of snitches to provide them with that- just a suggestion, not trying to be critical.

Peace and prayers to all victims of the Christchurch, NZ quake.
