I have a 10+ year legally prescribed Klonopin script that I can't refill for 2 more days. All I needed was some IV benzos and a small script till refill. I was always led to believe ER's HAVE to treat acute BZO wd. I'm talking, I was in full blown DT's. Seeing bugs everywhere, shaking uncobtrollably.

The doctor came in with an attitude from the beginning and to make a long story short, I was KICKED OUT of the ER (no physically threatening behavior) and sent to drive home in the dark, HALLUCINATING AND SHAKING ON HOUR 76 with no benzos. They said I " just wanted drugs." DUH! I said, "I guess I'll go home and have a fatal series of seizures." And the doctor said "okay." And walked out. (?!!!!) I quickly drive to the next ED where they immediately gave me 6mg IV Ativan and a script to get me through. I am STRONGLY considering litigation. Do you guys think this is worth pursuing?

Also, the acuity of my withdrawals makes the reason of why I was out irrelevant. This was a medical emergency. - for the curious, they were stolen.

Wow, that's despicable. Is there another hospital nearby? If not keep going back, they'll more than likely give you something to get you to leave, be firm... you absolutely NEED treatment if anything you can try asking for gabapentin and propanolol as doctors don't bat an eye at these two substances and it may provide some relief until you get your script filled.

In the mean time try and get a hold of l theanine, kava, and magnesium citrate or any other absorbable magnesium ie not oxide. These helped a but in etiz withdrawal but admittedly my withdrawal, while terrible, is not nearly as intense as this.

Anyways, good luck man... don't give up, ask to speak to other doctors and have them check your vitals which ahould be sky high right about now, then hopefully they'll fucking believe their patient, for once. This is why I hate doctors, there just enjoy the power they have over their patients.

Thank you, Ck.. NT if you're out there or any other senior moderators who can help answer this question please provide some insight.

I've had similar problems recently. My GP and local Drug treatment centre keep passing the book back and forth! I was told if I need Benzos then I have to acquire them illicitly as they will not prescribe them. Even though just over a Year ago it's on my records that I was taken to A&E with severe symptoms, on the brink of having a seizure, shaking, tremors, delusional, hallucinating, in a state of psychosis, completely lost touch with reality, I also lost use of my basic motor skills (I couldn't use may arms) I was admitted for 6 Days and released and then put on a taper, whose guidelines were completely ignored by my GP, she would cut 5 mg every 2 weeks instead of the recommended 1-2mg every 2 weeks which I felt completely uncomfortable with but she ignored my concerns which showed breathtaking arrogance.

Needless to say I finally finished my taper and the symptoms came back so I reinstated on 30 mg and stayed at that for a Year. I just went 10 Days clean after stopping cold turkey and was losing the plot again but luckily acquired some Diazepam which I've began again at 20 mg per day with the hope of coming off at a comfortable rate over the coming Months...

It's worse than a joke! :(

Unfortunately, I think that it would be hard to win a lawsuit against the first ER doctor unless you had actually been severely harmed, say gotten in a car accident or had a seizure. That is, above and beyond the extreme suffering that his callousness and incompetence caused you. My old psychiatrist tapered me too fast off of years-long benzo prescriptions and I had 2 grand mal seizures. During one of them I hit my head on the coffee table. That after she lied to me about the clinic no longer being able to prescribe them (no longer on their formulary she said). Later, she slipped up and I found that it was her choice to cut me off but was too much of a pussy to be honest. These so-called doctors should have their licenses jerked.

you could persue it, if you've got plenty of money to throw away, but since you weren't injured, i have my doubts that you'd be victorious. Physicians have the right not to prescribe any drug. It's their license, after all.
