I have neuropathy and am using lyrica225mgs(intolerable side effects) to kill the pain.I also take 2.5 mg ativan and .5 klonpin daily(never more)
My one dr prescribed bupe patches for pain and I need to use something to get off the lyrica.
my qustion is:bupe has respriatory effects especially when combined with benzos.I am tolerant ot benzos but not opiods.
so would I stop breathing on these two drugs I have some respiratory issues.Sleep apnea and some shortness of breath.
I know this is silly but no dumbass dr can answer and I dont want to kill myself while dealing w the pain.
can anybody answr this for me.
thanks in advance.

Bupe is very difficult to OD, especially when using for pain as opposed to recreational use, though in combination with benzos i'm not too sure..

What is the dosage of the patches he prescribed?

It depends on a lot of things.

Buprenorphine has a ceiling effect on respiratory depression (so above a certain dose there is no further increase in the level of resp depression) so for that reason it is considered safer in OD than other opioids, but combining it with benzos can negate this. As you have no opioid tolerance, I presume you will be taking a low dose as well, so the ceiling effect won't come into play - combining it with benzos can still be dangerous as with any opioid. However, if you have a benzo tolerance and take your regular benzo dose, and start with a very low buprenorphine dose, the risk is minimised - many people are prescribed both opioids and benzos and can take them safely. The key is being cautious, starting low, and keeping your benzo dose the same or lowered if possible (tricky if you take them daily, but if you take a range, go for the lower dose). Your doctor should have experience or knowledge of prescribing opioids to patients already on benzos - if not, you are within your rights to seek a second opinion.

Don't add in any other CNS depressants (alcohol, more benzos/opioids etc) either. It's very wise to be cautious about this, but being prescribed benzos is not a contraindication to also taking opioids - you just need to take more care.

Buprenorphine can usually be safely taken with prescribed benzodiazepines at normal dosage or lower, as long as you are tolerant to either opioids or benzodiazepines, the drugs are taken in the usual dosages prescribed and by the usual ROA prescribed, and you don't add alcohol or non-prescribed drugs into the mix. You should really talk to your doctor about this, are you saying he didn't seem to know enough about it? Or are the benzos you are taking not prescribed or taken in some way other than prescribed and you don't want to tell him?

Using gabapentin is the best substance to taper off of Lyrica, 300mg of that = 100mg Lyrica.

You can also use L-Theanine at 200-400mg, as it is structured almost the same as those two drugs, and has more tolerable side effects and is actually a nootropic, unlike Morontin or Lyrica.

Opiates are basically trash for neuropathic pain. I would think the only thing you would be achieving is a stupor that allows you to be distracted from the pain. Good luck, and I hope the advice the others have given you help in your recovery.
