OK so long story short I tried acid about a year ago and it didn't go so well. I pretty much tripped myself into insanity and really scared the shit out of me, however the trip was powerful and insightful and left me wanting to to give it another shot. I've been in the psychedelic game for a little bit including mushrooms and rc's but lsd was really the first time that I've had a bad experience. The only thing that i hesitate on is that schizophrenia has been in the history of my family. My concerns are really not having a reoccurring bad acid trip because looking back i realize how it went bad but my worry is more on the long lasting effects of lsd? Would it be worth another shot?

The desicion is entirely on you, as you know yourself better than we do. I've had some negative experiences on mushrooms, but I was able to correct the issues in my life that were giving me such grief during these negative experiences and I was able to enjoy my trips again.

Maybe someone more knowledgable can chime in regarding the history of schizophrenia in your family.

Just pay mind to your set and setting and give it a shot if you feel you're ready.

I think for most people who ingest psychedelic drugs will eventually run into a "difficult" or a "bad" trip. For some people it puts an end to them ever wanting to ever try psychedelic drugs ever again, for others it makes that much more curious about the psychedelic head space. Sometimes these issues are due to internal workings, maybe they are due to set and setting, but if do you want to give LSD another shot maybe you should think about why your trip went so awry.

Saying that though you are knowledgeable of that fact that you have schizophrenia in your family, maybe you should give up psychedelics. Is a substance really worth your mental stability?

I agree. If you have a history of mental illness in the family it would be better not to take psychedelics but if you feel that the benefits outweigh the risks then I would only trip very rarely and in a sensible way (ie not huge doses, unpredictable settings, staying up for days etc.)

It's certainly worth considering, even to the extent that it is probably wise to be on the safe side. I too have schizophrenia in my family, in my specific case there have been a lot of trips and I rarely ever 'lost it' and when I did the situation was complicated. But lately I have been losing too much ketamine and it now seems to produce dangerous mental states so I had to discontinue my use. Of course I cannot say anything about whether it is just that the quantities were so large!

Anyway I just thought I'd share with you what's up with me. Other than that I do not think others should tell you what to do, this is a decision you need to make yourself.

If you do decide to try it again, lower your dose and seek out the right set and setting. Then see if you can let go better than last time, ride it smoothly and keep your bearing.

I've heard from my doctor that schzophrenia skips a generation so if your mother had it your fine. Also it is a small chance you will really experience it until later on in life. So do not worry to much.

As for Acid we all have bad trips at one point or another like citysmog said. However, you will not have a good trip until you can get over that bad trip. It will hinder you trust me. I had a terrible Mushroom trip that i so stupidly decided to do at school. It has rang in my mind every time i have tripped ruining all my experiences. Sit down, think it over, and when you can maintain and excited and content mood you'll do fine. And don't worry acid will always be around so take as much time as you need.
Hope this helped

Appreciate the feed back. I've never had a problem with any other psychedelics I've done shrooms quite a few times and had have great trips . It was my biological mother who was diagnosed with schizophrenia but i was adopted so don't know much else on the matter. Looking back on the acid trip it was definitely the setting that caused the trip to go sour. There were people around who weren't familiar with psycehdelics and got kinda tripped out which sent me on a bad one. Its weird though that i can say ive experienced insanity its a state of mind you know your in when your experiencing it. I will probably give it another shot at the right time and place.
