Hello everyone. I am a 53 year old ex-drug user. 2 weeks ago I had open heart surgery. On day one they gave fentanyl which does not agree with me. Switched me to morphine but dosing was unsatisfactory (1mg thru a pca pump every 6 mins plus a one time 2mg loading dose). After much complaining was put on a cocktail of morphine dilaudid and percocet. This worked good. From day 5 until now was switched to PO percocet and oxycontin. Right now am eating about 80mg total oxycodone per day. I want to get off it completely. I believe for an opiate naive person jumping off this dose after 2 weeks would not cause much distress at all. However, having been a heroin addict many moons ago I find that even one day's use of opiates throws me into withdrawal. Does anyone know if a 5 day methadone detox would be appropriate in my situation? I have been on a spotty 3 month methadone maintenance regime before. Thanks everyone.

Welcome to Bluelight, I hope you can find the answers to your questions here.

Though I've never gone through what you're going through, I've known lots of people who have & have done plenty of reading across the internet and Bluelight. I find that Kratom may be something worth looking into in your shoes. Though like anything else(as you already know) you don't want to form habits. But on the other end you may find it to be useful. I'll let you be the judge.

Otherwise, in your case I would certainly check out these threads also since they would probably spark your immediate interest(perhaps?). - Addicted and need help??? Click here

Methadone worries
Perhaps alternatives may be what you need since this is only a temporary stint.

Anyway, good luck with everything & don't be afraid to ask any questions, the search function also can be a big help,( I used it to find threads I thought would help you :) ) as you may find questions that have been previously answered, rather than waiting for someone to respond to your inquiry.
Bluelight can be a wealth of knowledge, utilize it & it will teach you many things.

Take care.
