Waking up with a lot of pain after opiates

Last night I was insufflating hydromorphone. I did about 30mg over the course of maybe 5-6 hours. Typical hydro night for me.

But what's also typical is that I woke up with pain (mainly muscular pain). My right shoulder is killing me, my left leg hurts in my quadriceps and pain all over the left side of my ass. The later 2 pains are most inconvenient as I cannot walk and have to limp around in pain lol.

Could this be because of what actions I may be doing while under the influence of the opioid? Such as grinding up the hydro beads using my right arm I assume is the cause of my shoulder pain.

But I have no idea what may have caused the pain in my ass.

Is this a common occurrence? And is my theory about my muscles being so relaxed and pain-free that all the pain I would have had was saved up until the opioid is finished? Lol.

EDIT: Ohhhh maybe my leg/ass pain is because they were so relaxed that when I woke up after a 6 hour opioid night they were just getting used to being used in a normal state again. Kind of like atrophy in a way lol. OR I could have slept on it weird in the dead sleep of opiates lol.

You probably nodded off in a weird position. Usually i ignore muscle pains as they never mean anything serious.
Also I know withdrawals or comedown causes muscle and joint pain, possible?

There is another likely explanation since you mentioned very specific areas that where sore.

Firstly I need some information before I can know for sure if this might be the answer you need:

1. Do you have a male roommate or live with anybody else that knows you use opiates, has access to your room and has vision issues or tends to err to their left side due to an old dancing injury?
2. Check your right shoulder in the mirror to see if you see any bruises that look like finger marks?
3. Check your left leg to see if the bruise is round and similar in size to, as a random example, a human kneecap?

If you answered yes to all the above, then not to worry, the solution is simple: Put some moisturizer on your ass every night to help with the bruzing. Sleep on your back. Try to sleep deeply so as not to struggle or err bump yourself against nearby objects. Give your roomate a big smile and a wink every evening before bed time. Smiles are free after all and sharing happiness with others is what life's all about.

Yeah, it could honestly be that you were nodding/fell asleep in weird positions or something. That always happens to me when I take opiates and then I'm sore the next day.

Ya that's my best guess as well. Also my shoulder/top of pectoral muscle/bottom of neck is currently numb. No paresthesia, just numb. Felt weird to shower heh.

Wouldn't it depend on how often the OP uses opioids and whether or not they are dependent on them? Or can hyperalgesia happen even from occasional use, like a temporary rebound effect?

I use oxycodone a couple days a month (200mg total) and hydromorphone about one day a week (24mg-30mg).

I'm not dependent on them. All summer I was working (I'm a student -- summer job) and maybe only used a couple times. And occasionally I'll go a couple weeks without hydro.

And to comment on the latter end of your post. The very first time I used hydromorphone I woke up the next morning in pain, excruciating headache, and i couldn't feel my left leg. I posted the story of the event on BL when it happened: http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/601780-What-caused-this-bizarre-hydromorphone-after-effect.

Also, I'll tell ya one thing... The pain did last for a couple days. Today is the first day I feel fine. But there's numbness in my right collarbone area.

I'd try and be more aware of the positions you are nodding out/falling asleep in... try it one night where you know you are laying comfortably in your bed just like you would during sleep and see if you still wake up in pain.

Ya I will. I do sleep with my girlfriend, so I imagine that plays a major factor lol. She moves around a lot. I laid on my left side and the left part of my ass/leg hurt, so there's a hint.

Have you pissed her off lately? Maybe she's attacking you in your sleep... (I speak from experience) :\ hah.

Or maybe you need a more comfortable bed... hah. Makes a big difference.
