ive posted on here a couple times recently about ambien, and for a few days it was nice, was getting 7 - 8 hours of sleep and waking up at about 8am.. however it came to an end earlier this week - now i take the pill at 12am, then wake up around 5, and cannot get back to sleep. its starting to run me down..

just was wondering if i took the 10mg Regular Ambien at 12am, and if i wake up again at 5 or 5:30, can i take another ambien, or even a half of one to get back to sleep for a few more hours? i know the half life is short on 10mg ambien, but was wondering if anyone has had any ill-effects from doing this?

if you take another half one at 5am I garuntee you'll fall back asleep but then getting up at 8am is going to be tough
you can expect some morning grogginess, no doubt.

Its also going to cause your tolerance to go up as time passes.
Eventually you'll be needing to take 15mg just go get to sleep until 5.. and so on.

As long as wou are aware of that there's probably nothing inherently wrong with the plan other than dealing with the morning grogginess if you are waking up only 3 hours after redosing

I've done it before, not directly with ambien but with closely related drugs; I currently take clonazepam and temazepam, (benzos), for sleep; on occasion I've woken up at 3 or 4 am and taken another 0.5mg of clonazepam to help get some more rest but I knew that some days that just wasn't an option - if I needed to wake up at 6am and for what ever reason woke up at 4am i'd just grin and bear it, toss and turn for another 2 hours rather than taking more meds only to be next to non-functional when i woke up 2 hours later. I didn't want to fall into the habit of drinking caffeine agian so redosing with meds then waking up shortly after and just drinking an espresso was out.

If you're someone who always has coffee in the morning anyway then maybe it isn't a big deal your you at all to wake up groggy, but be able to shower and have a coffee to clear your head a bit.

well i mean i just threw out 3 hours after redose just as a time.. i dont have to wake up early at all, id just like to get a full nights sleep.. i see my doc tuesday, so ill be able to get the CR version which helped a LOT when i was prescribed it

That seems like a better solution.

12.5mg extended release may be the key for ya.
I was never able to try those because they aren't available generic (or weren't back when i needed them).
They were too pricey for me and the pharmacy said they couldn't do a trial week for a reduced price to see fi the meds worked first, they would have to charge me for the full Rx. So I ended up not trying tit simply because I didn't want to pay a ton w.o knowing it wold work first

you should be ok redosing for a few nights if you need to to tide you through until you talk to your doc. Then I'd definitely suggest trying out the Ambien-CR's

yeah haha im looking forward to the CR's to be quite honest.. while the regular ambien is really nice getting to sleep, id much rather stay asleep

I unfortunately have both trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep; hence I take Temazepam (a shorter acting benzo but stronger hypnotic) to help me fall asleep and Clonazepam (longer acting benzo to help me stay asleep). The Clonazepam also helps with some underlying anxiety that may be a source of the issue.
