Benzos Waking up excited when taking benzos before bed

Ever since I started taking benzos (almost exactly 3 years ago) I have noticed that if taken before bed, most often I wake up very excited, in a great mood, very energetic.

I can compare it directly to being on Adderall just without the racing heart and jitteryness.

I have experienced this with diazepam, alprazolam and clonazepam.

However, I do not wake up in such a good mood if I have a lot of benzos in my system at the time. It dies with the more I have in my system before taking the bed time pill.

Does anyone else experience this? And does anyone have any theory or knowledge as to why this happens?

Not complaining, it's my favourite part!

likely its because you are actually getting a full nights rest which you may not have been previously. Also taking benzos at night are going to reduce night time anxiety (which can effect your nights sleep, which carries over into the next day), and the anxiety you may have in the morning. So, the combo of waking up a bit more refreshed than usual, on top of reduced anxiety the night before and the morning is going to leave you feeling a solid sense of well being for the start of your days.

that's very true, i agree completely. although it gives me good physical stimulation too (except my heart rate is normal, like i said). for example, i cleaned my apartment today lol and i would never randomly do that on a wednesday afternoon! which is strange too.
 
thats very interesting. Sometimes people just get opposite affects then they are suppose to from a certain drugs. Maybe iis could be placebo?

When i wake up i feel just as shit as when i went to sleep.
 
Some minor, or clean stimulation is a result of getting a good nights rest and just being in a good mood. I know days where I have something going on that makes me happy, excited, positive in my thoughts, etc., help give me a rush of stimulation. Also, your more likely to involve yourself in healthy activities when your feeling rested and are in a good mood. Who knows maybe on top of the reduced anxiety, increase in well being, and more restful sleep, your eating more appropriately as well which can also greatly increase how much energy your body has.
 
i don't mean to keep refuting posts but the last time this happened, i only got 4-5 hours of sleep, and i'm never a morning person lol. i have nothing to do everyday since im not in school for this term.

its just some phenomenon with benzos i guess... me and my friends have experienced it, it's great.

even after a night of drinking, we always pop a valium before bed so we don't wake up hungover, but instead we wake up stoked and excited sometimes haha.

im 100% sure it is directly attributed to the use of a benzo the night before. just boggling why. and how it can make me wake up lazy sometimes if i already had a lot in my system.
 
I don't get how you can take a benzo to prevent a hangover. For me, mixing the two would guarantee a hangover.

You might be one those people with a fast metabolism.
 
Well I do have a fast metabolism but I thought it was common knowledge that if you take a benzo like diazepam, alprazolam lorazepam, clonazepam, etc. before falling asleep after a night of heavy drinking that you won't have a hangover in the morning.

Has something to do with the GABA receptors.

It's a main selling point for people who buy valium around here.

This happens to many people that I know. Im actually so surprised no one here can relate. Especially benzo newbies, because like I said it works better with less benzo in your system, take it before sleeping! Lovely mornings.
 
I get this too. I think its a good thing. I have ADD and anxiety. As long as I don't overuse my klonopin, (or whatever benzo) and don't take a stimulant. I wake up feeling great.... don't get caught up in it, just enjoy it while its stillmellow
 
idk i wake up feeling good and possibly still feeling the ffects of the benzo, especially if you are taking a medium-long acting benzo like klonopin or diazepam
 
Benzo's don't make me feeling good, this morning speedyness is very different kind of feeling good. Benzo's make most people feel depressed, this reaction is just the opposite when the benzo wears off that some ppl experience including me and the OP. It's like hypomania.
 
I also experienced this phenomenon a few times with Diazepam and Phenazepam and really enjoyed it because of my THC addiction lethargy is the usual feeling in the morning. But this motivating effect did not occur every time when using Benzos so it was not reliable.

And regarding the anti-hangover thing, I've never heard that kind of usage and I think it is just the higher amount of sleep you get. After being drunk I wake up after ~5 hours because of the alcohol rebound. With Benzos this can be avoided. Just my theory.
 
I have not had this happen at night time, BUT I have a theory...I take alprazolam almost every day, usually for sleep. Sometimes though, I take it during the day. I take methylphenidate and a few different opiates/opioids as well. Once in awhile I get really nervous and on edge; even physically shakey from them. It doesn't happen alot and have no idea what causes it, but I have noticed that when I take my xanax for this purpose, it yields very different results.
Instead of making me feel super relaxed or drowsy, I feel the way you described- extremely calm, centered, and perfectly content...but very alert as well. As you said, it's not a BAD feeling by any means. I can see how it could be an issue if you're popping up in bed at night like this though lol.
For me, I believe it has to do with how wound up I am at the time I take the benzo. I think it depends also on the nature of my anxiety. This thing only happens when I have what I know is drug induced anxiety. Im thinking something like, taking the benzo is such a relief that it's exciting. I am NOT wording this properly and I'm sure it sounds ridiculous....and you don't get this way during the day, so don't know if this could apply. Hell, I don't know if that's the deal w me! It makes sense though ...just wish I could explain it better ;)

well i know that benzos have a rebound effect when they wear off, perhaps you are waking up and since the benzo has worn off, you get the rebound energy and anxiety, the latter of which gets mistaken for "excitement", which can stem from anxiety. this is just a theory, my source is a 2000 page pharmacology book and I'm too high to get out of bed and get it.

In all seriousness though, your idea is probably more likely than what I was trying to say. Never thought of it, but it makes sense. If memory serves, the same type of thing is known to happen with alcohol (although two obviously different things). it seems like a good theory :)
 
I have not experienced this myself, I find I tend to wake up groggy, but I have a theory as to why this can happen. When you take a benzo, it enhances the effects of GABA, the chief inhibitory neurotransmitter. When the benzo wears off, it can cause a rebound effect causing disinhibition/excitement.
