Vision problems after smoking

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with what I'm dealing with at the moment.

I am a 22 year old female and have been smoking weed 1-5 times daily for the past 2 years, and less frequently for 4 years before that.
I have never needed glasses for anything in my life, and am in fact a professional illustrator.
Lately when I smoke, I find it very hard to read. At first I just thought my eyes were irritated and got some Visine drops, but now even after using drops I can barely read anything, be it a book or laptop screen. My distance vision seems okay though.

I also get this way, though not as bad, if I'm extremely tired. I see and read fine all day before I smoke.

I'm seeing an eye doctor soon but I don't want to tell her I smoke every day. Could the vision problems be from smoking alone, or is it revealing a vision problem that would exist either way? Has anyone else had this happen?

i can't say for sure. but often peoples' vision gets worse with age. could be just the natural progression of things. how is your parents' vision? if bad, when did they require glasses?

i can't read when i'm high any more either, not a vision thing though. it's more of a concentration thing.
 
If I smoke too much my eyes tend to get really irritated and I just try my best to avoid reading anything lol but idk thats just me. The eye doctor would be your best decision here.
 
I am not a doctor! As far as I know, that is not normal for people with healthy eyes/good vision. You probably have underlying problems brought out by the weed (it has physical effects on the eyes), especially as you say it also happens when you're tired. You should probably tell your doctor it happens when you smoke cause it might help them diagnose the problem. It could be vital information for all I know.

MY OPINION: It most likely isn't vital information. You could probably get away with just telling him it happens when you're tired. Tiredness and cannabis both have the same effect on the eyes, they reduce intraocular pressure.

i've heard of other medical problems like memory loss and things like that, but not vision problems. i'm sure it's possible though.
 
Only when I'm really baked and my pupil get bigger do I have real trouble reading cuz everythings fuzzy from my eyes beig dilated. I never noticed it having that greatof a long term difference either, MDMA on the otherhand has practically made me blind lol.
 
Go to an eye doctor/optometrist and get your eyes checked out.

You can tell the doctor that you smoke as you will not get in trouble for this.

Does it ever happen when you are sober?
 
yeah, it's not that I'm scared of getting in trouble, it's just that I've heard a lot of my friends say that whenever they're honest to doctors about drug use (when they don't "need" to be) they get eyerolled at and/or scolded. I dunno.
 
my friend had the same problem... do you have a history of any allergies? cannabis does have an effect on your eyes. It can, for some, dry them out... i would have recommended visine allergy formula but if that doesnt work then try a different brand. I doubt this is a serious problem but i sense it may have to do with allergies. Try a diff brand of eye drop or allergen healing formulas. Good luck.

Do you wear contacts at all?

I wear them and I would have issues with seeing in the distance as that's why I wear them but it was because they would dry out but this was a decade ago and I've long since changed brands and the lenses I was using at the time that gave me problems were very thick.

When I did smoke I did once tell a doctor that I did and I remember him falsely assuming that I was smoking pot daily and baked all the time when at the time and for most of the years I smoked herb I'd only smoke it a few times a month say 1-3X in a month. 8) So I never went back to him.
 
I wear contacts and this happens when I am in a dark room. I think smoking weed reduces the lubrication in your eyes, making them dry out faster and inducing a bit of a vision "blur".

I've never need visine (I'm that lucky kid who's eyes never get red), so I can't comment on how that may or may not help. When it gets really bad for me, I pop my contacts out and things clear up (well, relatively, considering my contacts are out) after a few minutes.

I would just tell your eye doctor and see how she feels about it. It isn't like she is going to call the cops on you for telling her you smoke everyday, or withhold prescriptions for glasses.
